Position Summary

This position will support the United Way Atlanta Southwest Regional office in the areas of community engagement and education and awareness. This includes assisting with the planning, execution and follow-up of key community engagement and fundraising activities and events, as well as assisting with the development and management of social media to foster volunteer, partner, and other stakeholder awareness of UWGA presence and work in local community. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Southwest Regional Manager in collaboration with the Regional Director and will primarily be based out of our downtown office location.

  • Community Engagement
    • Assist Regional Manager with special assignments.
    • Assist with invitation, registration, food and beverage coordination, material distribution and other event areas.
    • Assist with potential venue hosts and inspect event facilities to ensure UWGA standards are met.
    • Assist with support and follow-up with three County Advisory Boards.
    • Create and update PowerPoint presentations as needed.
    • Assist in the creation and maintenance of stakeholder databases via Excel and other spreadsheets. Specifically create database reflecting all nonprofit agencies, stakeholders, etc. 
  • Education and awareness
    • Confer with staff to identify content for UWGA newsletter stories. Draft newsletter stories for review by Regional Director and Regional Manager.
    • Report on online reviews and feedback from stakeholders.
    • Design posts to sustain readers’ curiosity and creating buzz around activities and events in the region.
    • Obtain engaging text, image and video content from SW Team members and Senior Marketing Manager.
    • Coordinate timely and relevant posts, videos, stories, pictures on UWGA social media accounts as needed.
    • Assist the Southwest Regional team with social media management.

Qualifications​​​​​​​

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel

  • Working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn

  • Demonstrate maturity and responsibility

  • Inherent integrity and the will to help others

Eligibility

The United Way of Greater Atlanta (UWGA) internship program is a one semester, paid program designed to give college students an opportunity to complement their formal education with career-related experience.

United Way of Greater Atlanta supports internship programs that provide growth and learning opportunities to students pursuing their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

To qualify as a student intern, students must meet one of the four following enrollment criteria:

  • The student is currently enrolled as a full-time student as defined by the school, organization, or institution.
    • The student must provide proof of enrollment upon hire.
    • Proof of continued enrollment must be provided each semester during the regular school year.
  • The student has been accepted into an educational institution which meets the above requirement, when between institutions (e.g., from high school to college).
