Under the supervision of the Cytology and Infectious Disease Supervisor, the Infectious Disease Molecular Technologist performs with proficiency and understanding, the tests and procedures assigned to the Molecular Cytology Department.  This position is familiar with basic laboratory functions including pipetting, analysis, basic computer functions and department procedures.


The position is responsible for accurate reporting of results, quality control, teaching, special projects, equipment maintenance and all other duties assigned by the Supervisor. Responsible for the proper handling and disposal of all biohazardous materials and chemically hazardous materials including the neutralization or recycling of chemicals before disposal or reuse.

This position is 7am to 3:30pm.


  • Perform FDA/IVD approved testing.
  • Performance of molecular testing including send outs, quality control and system documentation.
  • Label specimens and distribute cases to the pathologist responsible for reviewing the case
  • Assists supervisory staff in monitoring workflow and insuring that work priorities are met for the department.
  • Always maintains a pleasant, courteous attitude when answering the telephone.
  • Participates in weekend and holiday schedules as staffing requirements dictate.  Remains flexible and works a share of overtime or different shifts if necessary during staffing shortages or emergencies.
  • Always maintains a safe work environment and attends all safety training classes and conforms to all company safety guidelines and requirements.
  • Assist molecular directors and supervisor with processing new tests, and confirmation tests.
  • Verify that results show QC and valid data.
  • Performs basic accessioning, assisting the laboratory assistant when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Familiar with intermediate Molecular techniques.
  • Familiar with basic laboratory chemistry including mixing basic reagents (w/v, v/v) and laboratory math.
  • Familiar with routine handling of outside customer samples.
  • Familiar with intermediate laboratory chemistry including using pH meters and molarity and normality.
  • Understands molecular techniques, principles, theory and instrumentation.
  • Able to accept guidance and constructive criticism. 
  • Displays a mature and professional attitude, is honest, and has a strong sense of responsibility toward patients and clients.
  • Able to conform to laboratory timekeeping procedures.  Keeps unexcused absences and late arrivals to a minimum.
  • Able to conform to established and new procedures and policies instituted by the company.
  • Able to conform to the Laboratory Dress code and wears appropriate name badge at all times.





  • CT (ASCP), MT (ASCP), MB (ASCP), and BS in related field preferred.
  • CT (ASCP), MLT (ASCP), MT(ASCP) or MB(ASCP) registration eligible, working towards certification.
  • Uncertified, MB eligible (enrolled in an accredited laboratory program or 2 or 4 year degree with 18 quarter credit hours of biology and/or chemistry).
  • Must be able to express them self effectively both in written and verbal communication.
