Description

Essential Functions

  1. Provide continuous observation of the DWC property and activities within the Bridge Housing Program.
  2. Control access into DWC property by being able to identify the 25 participants enrolled into the Bridge Housing Program. Greet participants upon arrival, link other individuals to additional services, and build rapport with participants.
  3. Provide safety services for the Bridge Housing Program as well as the Permanent Supportive Housing Program
  4. Crisis intervention and de-escalation on participants when they become heightened as well as secure the surrounding area.
  5. Create incident reports and notify the appropriate personnel in the event of an emergency.
  6. Be familiar with operational policies and enforce the various policies when necessary.
  7. Hands on intervention in physical altercations or escorting client off property as needed
  8. Other duties as assigned

Competencies

  1. Knowledge of issues related to women’s poverty, homelessness, mental illness, trauma, substance abuse, health issues, and older adults preferred
  2. Excellent customer service and strong interpersonal skills; ability to engage a diverse group of participants, team-members and volunteers
  3. Ability to exercise and model good judgment, teamwork and professionalism, especially in crisis situations
  4. Experience with non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques within DWC guidelines
  5. Strong written and oral communication skills required
  6. Detail-oriented, highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and set and meet goals and deadlines
  7. Ability to establish rapport with clients
  8. Ensuring that all participants are treated with dignity and respect

Supervisory Responsibility 
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

The Bridge Housing Program is staffed seven days per week (Monday-Sunday 4pm-7am) to provide supportive services to homeless and low-income women in the community. DWC is seeking a highly personable, compassionate, and team-oriented person to provide safety services for our Bridge Housing Program. As a safety patrol, you will work to create a safe and welcoming environment that meet the immediate needs of the 25 women each night. This position will be responsible for securing the Bridge Housing space during operational hours and ensuring services are smoothly rendered.  The safety patrol will work closely with participants and staff to provide services that assist the women in this program. This position reports directly to the Director of Health and Wellness.

Physical Demands

  1. Candidate must be able to bend, stand on a step stool, walk stairs and lift at least 25-45lbs
  2. De-escalate heightened clients
  3. Make patrols around the agency in order to observe the property
  4. Physically restrain/ utilize holding skills

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 
This is a Part-Time position and the ability to work nighttime hours is required. Part-time shifts for this position are Sunday through Wednesday from 11:30 pm to 6:30 am.

Travel 
Minimal traveling may be required for activities, meetings and/or trainings as directed

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience 

  1. Valid California Guard Card
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent
  3. Direct service experience with high risk/high need populations preferred and/or history of employment in customer service required; Experience in a multi-service nonprofit is a plus
  4. Prior security experience preferred
  5. Good customer service skills
  6. Oral and written fluency in both Spanish and English preferred
