Qualifications

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As an Associate General Counsel, you are TMI’s legal representative and work on exciting matters that require proactive legal guidance. You are part of a group of talented team members and the projects you work on challenge you to think creatively and constructively. You have excellent people skills, organizational skills, communication skills, high attention to quality, detail and accuracy, and you work with urgency.  You are energetic and collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of TMI’s business. Your contributions will be impactful, value-driven and you will play an instrumental role on the team.

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

    • Work closely and cross-functionally with all teams (Sales, Marketing, HR, Finance & Accounting, Operations, Compliance) to provide advice on a wide range of legal matters
    • Counsel senior leaders on various legal issues such as, labor & employment, compliance, contracts, collections, M&A transactions, all while appropriately balancing business needs and risk mitigation
    • Lead, mentor, develop and support the Risk Team to accomplish department objectives
    • Manage litigation and defense strategy, arbitrations, internal investigations, communications with federal and state agencies, and responses to correspondence from attorneys and other relevant parties
    • Analyze judicial and legislative developments to structure and implement strategies, trainings, policies and procedures to mitigate legal risk
    • Oversee and instruct external counsel; manage budgets and associated forecasting and reporting requirements
    • Assist with other projects that have legal implications as required

 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Juris Doctorate degree and membership in good standing with the California Bar
  • 8+ years combined experience, primarily in employment and labor advice with a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department (high-growth company experience a plus)
  • High EQ, comfort with ambiguity, and a “no job too small” mindset
  • Proven ability to manage a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to distill complex legal issues and provide sound, clear legal advice to senior leaders and managers
  • Experience with local, state and federal employment laws, familiarity with California employment law, labor relations and negotiations, contract review, etc.
  • A team player with low ego who can effectively work with all levels of the organization
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Passion for people, with the ability to create and sustain strong working partnerships across the organization.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to embrace and champion change at short notice.
  • Absolute team player - high energy, positive, and a contagious enthusiasm & proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present to different audiences effectively.
  • Construction industry experience helpful, but not required
