Position Summary:

Given the forward-thinking business model, proprietary nature of the business, and the aggressive growth-oriented goals that Caris has, we have decided to expand the Information Technology team with the addition of a Manager of Database Infrastructure.  This individual will take daily direction from the Director of Hosting, and be responsible for design, engineering, implementation and support of the Caris internal and external hosting environments.  The goal of this role is to engineer, operate, monitor, and improve processes and technology related to Caris’ database infrastructure. Manager will directly interface with external vendors, IT internal customers, as well as Caris Life Sciences IT Leadership in an effort to establish the best possible IT database computing and advance Caris Life Sciences capabilities. This position reports to the Director of Hosting.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prioritizes daily activities of database team operations unit
  • Responsible for planning and achieving budgets, goals, and business objectives.
  • Implements and maintains enterprise-wide IT system tools and ensures scalability.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and associated training plans.
  • Follows established policies to mitigate risk.
  • Develops and deploys methodologies for testing performance and providing performance statistics.
  • Builds and sustains cordial relations between end users, the public, vendors, and employees.
  • Provides ongoing input into the formation and structure of the Caris Life Sciences internal and external database and workflow design.
  • Applies current computer science technologies to assist in designing, developing, evaluating, securing database systems.
  • Ensures successful implementation and system maintenance related to defined Standards for technology updates.
  • Support and monitors databases to detect vulnerabilities and incidents.
  • Provides fault resolution and escalation.
  • Develops, plans and gathers metrics to provide a solid platform for decision making. 
  • Responsible for gathering timely, relevant and analytical information.
  • Communicates complex technical information to team members and many levels of management.
  • Serves as a mentor and positive role model for team members and peers alike.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field(s) of study such as healthcare administration, security management, management information systems, or business administration or equivalent professional experience required.
  • 10+ years experience in Information technology
  • 5+ years experience in an IT leadership role
  • Technical background in databases including postgres, MSSQL, MYSQL, MongoDB.
  • Experience implementing highly available and enterprise scalable solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in database operations.
  • Skills in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% occasionally, though generally less.
  • Knowledgeable in the practice of audit response, and application of appropriate Controls including people, process, and technology.
  • Maintain awareness and understand emerging trends and technologies in IT server computing, storage, backup technologies and Healthcare and/or Life Sciences.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving network and business problems.
  • Ability to conduct and document research into IT infrastructure issues.
  • Conditions of Employment:  Individual must successfully complete pre-employment process, which includes criminal background check, drug screening and reference verification.  Also, individual must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by the date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based jobs, if not currently employed by Caris Life Sciences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification in area of expertise is preferred

Other:

  • Job may require after-hours response to emergency issues.
  • Periodically scheduled on-call may require after-hours response for technical emergencies not explicitly related to assigned job responsibilities.

Physical Demands:

  • Must possess ability to sit, stand, and/or work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • May have exposure to blood-borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemicals including formalin in the lab environment.
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 35 lbs. is required when installing some IT equipment.
