Position Summary:

The responsibility of Lab Assistant I is to provide general assistance to technologists/technicians and pathologists to ensure smooth work flow for the entire department. Responsibilities may include obtaining information from various departments, processing and/or accessioning different types of specimens and providing administrative and organizational support to the department. Due to various environmental hazards presented in the workplace such as formalin, communicable disease, fresh human tissue, etc., employees must adhere to HIPAA standards and strict Standard Operating Procedures and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

Approximate Position Schedule: M-F noon-830pm

Essential Duties:

A Lab Assistant I may perform any of the following duties or groups of duties:

  1. Assemble, correlate and quality check completed histology cases
  2. Distribute completed slides to all pathologists
  3. File un-stained slides/tissue blocks
  4. Change, load, rotate, clean, and maintain processors
  5. Change, load, rotate, clean, and maintain staining instrumentation
  6. Reagent preparation and recycling
  7. Utilize company’s internal software applications
  8. Restock supplies as needed
  9. Hazardous waste control
  10. Other duties as assigned

  1. Minimum High school graduate
  2. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in biology/chemistry/anatomy preferred
  3. Prior clinical medical setting or laboratory experience preferred
  4. Basic computer program & application skills
  5. Customer service experience.

  1. Be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
