Ensworth is a kindergarten through twelfth grade independent coeducational school located in Nashville, TN. The High School Fitness Program utilizes a 10,000 square foot fitness center, five basketball courts, a 3,000 square foot padded room, and a Natatorium with a 50-meter competition pool and heated instructional pool. High School students participate in individualized fitness programs. The fitness program is committed to graduating physically fit students with the knowledge and experience to continue a healthy lifestyle. Ensworth seeks interns from health related fields with a working knowledge of exercise physiology and a desire to encourage high school students to be physically fit. A variety of internship programs are offered throughout the year.

 

Internship Sessions

  • Spring semester – Beginning in January (Application preferred by November 1)
  • Summer semester – Beginning in June (Application preferred by April 1)
  • Fall semester – Beginning in August (Application preferred by June 1)

 

Internship Hours

Our internship is a great opportunity designed to accommodate, but is not limited to, full-time college students fulfilling course requirements. A work schedule will be assigned to meet the college’s internship requirements.

 

Intern Responsibilities

  • Fitness Floor Supervision – instruct and motivate students through their individualized fitness program.
  • Fitness Program Planning – assist in creating individualized training programs.
  • Special Project – design and implement a project through current research and happening within the fitness industry. Examples include but are not limited to: a reference binder of mobility exercises for student use, nutrition education lessons, fitness testing and analysis, FMS screening and application.
  • Individual Fitness Assessments – observe and learn how to assess students through a variety of individual tests ranging from basic fitness tests (push-up test, VO2max test, etc.) to athletic performance tests (vertical jump, 40-yd dash, etc.)
  • Administrative Duties – assist with various procedures necessary for the daily operations of the fitness center.
  • Additional Programs – get involved in the planning and participating in summer programs for middle schoolers, teach faculty fitness classes, or work on a project with a fitness instructor mentor.

 

Evaluation

Evaluation of work performance shall be made in an objective manner by the site supervisor. It will be based upon successful completion of responsibilities and projects.

 

Fitness Internship Application Process

Prospective interns must submit the required paperwork via standard mail, email, or fax. Once completed forms are received, the applicant will be contacted for a campus visit and interview. Telephone interviews may be given for those who reside outside of the local area.

Conditions of the Internship Agreement

  • The internship is related to an educational purpose and there is no guarantee or expectation that the activity will result in employment with Ensworth School.
  • The education received by the Intern from the internship is for the express benefit of the Intern.
  • The Intern does not replace or displace any employee of Ensworth School.
  • The Intern will receive direct and close supervision by an appropriate supervisor.
  • Ensworth School does not derive an immediate advantage from the activities performed by the Intern.
  • Intern is not entitled to wages or any compensation or benefits for the time spent in the internship.
  • Ensworth School is not liable for injury sustained or health conditions that may arise for the unpaid intern during the course of the internship.

The Intern specifically agrees to and acknowledges the following:

  • This internship is educational in nature and there is no guarantee or expectation that the internship will result in employment.
  • Ensworth School may at any time in its sole discretion, terminate the internship without notice or cause.
  • Intern will maintain a regular internship schedule determined by the Intern and their supervisor.
  • Intern will demonstrate honesty, punctuality, courtesy, cooperative attitude, proper health and grooming habits, appropriate dress and a willingness to learn.
  • Intern will obey the policies, rules and regulations of Ensworth School establishments and comply with Ensworth School business practices and procedures.
  • Intern will furnish his/her supervisor with all necessary information pertaining to my unpaid internship, including related assignments and reports.
  • Under no circumstances will Intern leave the internship without first conferring with Intern’s supervisor.
  • Transportation to and from the internship site is the responsibility of the Intern.
  • While Intern is on Ensworth School premises, he/she is not considered an employee or agent of Ensworth School for any purposes, including but not limited to worker compensation.
  • Intern assumes all of the risks of participating in the internship program. In consideration of the opportunity afforded to the Intern to participate in the internship program, Intern hereby agrees that he/she, his/her assignees, heirs, guardians, and legal representatives, will not make a claim against Ensworth School or any of its affiliated organizations, or either Ensworth School officers or directors collectively or individually, or any of its employees, for the injury or death to Intern or damage to his/her property, however caused, arising from his/her participation in the internship program. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing. Intern hereby waives and releases any rights, actions, or causes or action resulting from personal injury or death to him/her, or damage to his/her property, sustained in connection with his/her participation in the internship program.
