Position Summary: The Systems Analyst leverages information technology and business systems to ensure the organization receives maximum values from its IT investments. The Systems Analyst studies technical and business systems and procedures and implements systems to help the organization operate more efficiently and effectively. The Systems Analyst researches problems, performs systems administration functions, and is familiar with a variety of operating systems, hardware platforms, and other technologies.  The Systems Analyst performs project management, system design and implementation, technical documentation, and requirement and customer relationship functions with a focus on efficiency, long-term supportability and overall value.


This position is primarily responsible for the laboratory information systems’ configuration, utilization, business analysis, consulting, end-user training, and documentation.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Application Support / System Administration

  • Manages and executes application system administration capabilities for moderate to complex systems
  • Provides end-to-end support for moderate to highly complex applications
  • Writes documentation that others can follow to effectively analyze diagnostic information to predict future performance and identify issues that may need to be resolved to ensure the system performs as expected
  • Performs upgrades and updates for moderate to highly complex applications
  • Provides technical or subject matter assistance to project teams involved in the development of implementation and test plans associated with complex application upgrades and updates. Guides project team to consider impacts on other inter-related systems and process flows
  • Develops test plans to test application functionality of moderate to highly complex applications across multiple modules in support of patches, upgrades, and infrastructure and/or desktop configuration changes
  • Works with users, user groups, clients and vendors to identify and prioritize application customization. Understands scope of user requests and potential impact on application and related systems. Reviews customization requests to ensure the request will meet user requirements and the functionality is not already present in the application
  • Responds to and resolves reported incidents according to service level agreements and identifies and resolves root problems
  • Completes work on projects or tasks developing project plans and work plans for moderate to highly complex projects
  • Analyzes and evaluates existing or proposed systems and devices or modifies procedures to process data and solve problems
  • Demonstrates service excellence and positive interpersonal relationships in dealing with others, including employees, managers, medical staff, and clients, so that productivity and positive relations are maximized
  • Provides primary support for new and existing business and laboratory systems, including programming, design, documentation, development, report development/generation, testing, modification, installations, implementations, user training, issue resolution, monitoring, and support to all end user requests, with the ultimate goal and objective of adding value and improving patient care
  • Use a wide application of IT and laboratory principles, theories, and concepts and working knowledge from related disciplines to provide solutions to a wide range of problems
  • This position requires an understanding of Anatomic Pathology laboratory operations and work flow in all lab areas

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, 5 years working in a laboratory environment or equivalent experience
  2. Talent for creatively utilizing technology, people and processes to solve unique business problems with a focus on overall value
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate with and persuade both technical and non-technical audiences
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with members of the IT department and/or with other teams
  5. Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently
  6. Personal characteristics to include flexibility, teamwork, thoroughness, and commitment to achieving objectives and quality in work
  7. In depth understanding of technology, hardware, software, network, and lab/healthcare operations
  8. Project Management or Program Management experience
  9. Ability to work within and meet various healthcare regulations such as HIPAA
  10. Must be authorized to work in the United States



Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience administering Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) solutions
  2. Experience with MS SQL Server and/or other database servers and related technology
  3. Experience in building, testing, and implementation of new software
  4. Experience in a laboratory/healthcare or similarly regulated setting with experience/exposure to HIPAA, SOX and other regulations


Mental/Physical Requirements:

Daily activity is 90% sitting and 10% walking or standing.


Work Environment:

Work is in a well-lighted office environment.

Frequent exposure to LCD (computer monitors), repetitive motions, light lifting (<20 lbs)
