The Downtown Womens Center seeks a full-time Veterans Case Manager to run DWCs program which serves veteran women and their families. This position will ensure that clients receive coordinated housing placement in the community, lead outreach efforts designed to serve veteran women and efforts to strengthen community partnerships. This position will also provide direct service and link women with housing, basic needs, medical and mental health services, job training and public benefits when eligible. The Veteran Case Manager will help women achieve housing stability and establish enduring support systems. An ideal candidate would be strengths-based, decisive, flexible, and creative. This position is a member of the Community Based Housing team and report directly to the Rapid Rehousing Manager.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide individualized case management services to clients (on-site and off-site) using the Housing First model; create individual service plans that ensure housing stability, address each clients needs and goals, identify and provide needed resources and referrals
  2. Develop outreach plan with Program Manager and conduct outreach to enroll women in services
  3. Work to effectively meet clients needs and resolve individual barriers through follow-up, advocacy and collaboration with DWC staff, Women Vets on Point and other community service providers
  4. Maintain accurate and timely records of activities, case management notes, and services provided to each client
  5. Provide guidance and support to interns and volunteers in the provision of services to clients
  6. Provide crisis intervention and group facilitation as necessary
  7. Develop and maintain relationships with clients, staff and local service providers, participate in community meetings pertaining to services benefiting clients, and serve as a representative of DWC at community events
  8. Utilize evidence-based practices in service delivery such as intensive case management, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Critical Time Intervention, and Housing First practices.
  9. Maintain accurate and timely records of activities, case management notes, and services provided to each client
  10. Provide regular, written reports to Program Manager and additional reports as assigned
  11. Participate in weekly individual and group supervision, in addition to other agency meetings and training as required
  12. Be an ambassador of DWC and its mission and values by participating in community meetings/events and other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. The employee must also be able to operate a vehicle.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-5.00 pm.

Regular travel throughout Los Angeles County is expected for this position.



Required Education and Experience

  1. A Bachelors degree in social work or related field and strong knowledge of the complexity of poverty and womens homelessness, mental illness, trauma, substance abuse, health issues, and older adults preferred.
  2. Experience with veterans and knowledge of VA system preferred.

  1. Excellent active listening and crisis intervention skills with ability to exercise and model good judgment.
  2. Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
  3. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, including proficiency in balancing direct service responsibilities with effective record keeping.
  4. Strong administrative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
  5. HMIS or other database management preferred.
  6. Current valid California state drivers license, insurance, and vehicle with good driving record.
  7. Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English a plus.
