Description

Position Summary:  

Under supervision of the Director of Laboratory Operations, the Flow Supervisor is responsible for managing, overseeing and ensuring the smooth running of the Flow Cytometry department.  In addition, the Flow Supervisor ensures adequate on-going performance of all Flow operations and procedures, participates in personnel management activities, and assists with making decisions on new laboratory equipment and testing.  The Supervisor is a responsible for establishing, standardizing, and implementing departmental procedures. And must collaborate with pathologists and other departments to make improvements to operations and ensure efficient workflow.

           

Essential Duties:

  1. Oversees daily departmental operations
  2. Recommend and endorse test methods to include validation, documentation and implementation of Flow test systems
  3. Ensure the quality of service provided by the department meets the requirements of internal and external clients
  4. Manages all aspects of staffing, including but not limited to scheduling, budgeting and performance reviews
  5. Initiate and monitor quality assurance programs and QC reports
  6. Oversees, plans and prepares for inspections 
  7. Monitor Flow lab work performance to determine staff resource utilization; reviews monthly work statistics to establish work performance standards and staffing adjustments
  8. Participate in personnel management activities in the department including, hiring, motivating, coaching and training staff.  Meet regularly with direct reports to support a collaborative and positive work environment
  9. Provide technical troubleshooting and decision making
  10. Provides back up assistance to the department
  11. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Strong problem solving, training, mentoring and team building skills
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  3. Work well under pressure with attention to detail
  4. Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
  5. Must be flexible with ability to adapt and adjust
  6. Must have strong organizational and time management skills
  7. Familiarity with Office Word, Excel, Power Point and LIS experience
  8. A thorough understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of flow cytometry testing and instrumentation

 

Qualifications/Experience:

  1. MT (ASCP) preferred
  2. 4+ years of experience working in a clinical Flow Cytometry lab
  3. 2+ years leadership experience preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Manual dexterity
  2. Walking
  3. Prolonged standing
  4. Computer use
  5. Must be able to safely lift up to 40 lbs.
