RailPros provides comprehensive consulting services for the rail industry.  We specialize in areas of RWIC/railroad flagging, project management, observation and inspection, real estate, rail design and engineering, training, and media production.  As a leader in our industry, RailPros’ projects create long-term value for our clients from concept through operation by providing technical excellence and outstanding services.  We are seeking a System Administration Manager to join our growing team at our corporate offices located in Irving, TX.


Our System Administration Manager will assure infrastructure and system application operations align to our internal customer’s uptime and availability service level requirements. The System Administration Manager will document the system, monitor the system, analyzes impacts of new requirements, and deliver the correct technical solutions in alignment with architectural, security, and business requirements.


Primary Duties:

  • Define IT functions including practices for managing hardware and software; managing access to applications data and systems; managing configuration of internal systems; and supporting a distributed workforce.
  • Develop appropriate metrics and monitors to ensure operational excellence for services being supported.
  • Perform risk assessment and risk management to prevent disasters and provide cost justifiable and practical solutions, including for continuity management and all existing and new services.
  • Act as a technical leader and point of escalation and provide technical direction to team-members fostering best practices and methodologies.
  • Manage Windows systems, including Windows Server 2012R2, 2016, and 2019
  • Stay current on applicable industry trends and integrated technologies.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with internal customers, vendors, contractors, and leadership.
  • Managing contracts with all IT third-party systems and services
  • Identify and scope projects and ensure the successful execution of a portfolio of initiatives leveraging both agile and waterfall project methodologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years progressive experience in IT, including 3 or more years in a management role.
  • At least 5 years of experience in technology development, architecture, integration, and management; systems administration experience including Windows administration and enterprise production systems.
  • 3 years VMware experience, including one or more of the following vCenter, vSphere, VSAN, or NSX
  • Ability to apply continuous improvement practices.
  • Leverage systems management and automation with self-repair rather than relying on alarming and human intervention.
  • Background in designing, deploying, optimizing, and managing Windows server deployments - RDSH/RDG/RDCB/RDW, DFS, IIS, MDT, CA, etc.
  • Proficient with security best practices in server configuration, tool development, and access controls.
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer focus, ownership, bias for action and the ability to dive deep.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's (Strongly Preferred)
  • Additional experience desired with AWS (or other major cloud vendor) Cloud administration and automation.
  • Administration, automation, and orchestration of large-scale Windows and Linux environments using configuration management solutions.
  • Experience with networking and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, routing, switching, firewalls, LAN/WAN, traceroute, iperf, dig, cURL or related); and DevOps experience is a very strong plus.
