Position Summary:

CellNetix is looking for a Pathologists' Assistant to join our team at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska. Palmer is part of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, located 40 miles north of Anchorage. The Mat-Su Valley area is the fastest growing region in Alaska and provides unlimited outdoor activities and spectacular views. This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated Pathologist' Assistant looking for adventure.

The purpose of the Pathologists' Assistant (PA) is to aid pathologists with the diagnosis of each case on the specimen level.  Under the supervision of the Alaska Site Supervisor and general technical direction of pathologists and Grossing Supervisor, the PA is responsible for the description and dissection of all simple and complex specimens, in a fast paced, high volume environment. The PA is also expected to maintain ASCP certification. The PA must adhere to HIPAA standards. Due to various environmental hazards presented in the workplace such as formalin, communicable disease, fresh human tissue, etc., employees must also adhere to strict Standard Operating Procedures and Personal Protective Equipment requirements.    

Scheduled Hours: 9:30 am-6:00 pm stationed at our Mat-Su lab. 

Qualifications

Essential Duties:

  1. Triage specimens for gross dissection
  2. Gross all types of surgical specimens, simple to complex
  3. Gross Photography
  4. Handling of certain tissue types for special studies
  5. Troubleshoot including reaccessioning cases, auditing specimen codes, field questions from various laboratory departments
  6. Possible  periodic rotation at nearby neighborhood clinic
  7. Assist with autopsy as needed
  8. Assist with research as needed
  9. Assist in training of new staff and competency assessments as needed
  10. Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  2. Excellent attention to detail
  3. Basic PC skills including Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to learn new software
  4. Demonstrate ability to perform effectively under pressure
  5. Adaptable
  6. Ability to prioritize
  7. Ability to focus
  8. Must be able to work independently

Qualifications/Experience:

  1. Graduate of a NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Program is preferred.
  2. ASCP certified PA
  3. 1+ year of experience in a fast paced, high volume laboratory preferred
