Organization Description
As the largest and oldest mentoring agency in the region, Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBS) has a strong foundation that makes it possible for us to get kids on the path to success. We work hard to build and sustain relationships with individuals in our community to mentor children and youth to become their true selves. We have been matching the Twin Cities kids with mentors since 1920. We serve over 3,500 young people every year with a staff of 60.

Primary Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee an assigned caseload of matches, accomplished primarily through indirect communication via email and phone. Through each contact, the MEC helps coach volunteers and parents/guardians through the match relationship and accurately documents all communications in our internal database system. Attention is paid to child safety and a sense of participant affiliation with BBBS.

An ideal candidate is someone that understands how to:

  • communicate effectively and respectfully to all program participants
  • effectively self-manage their time and adapt to the scheduling needs of program participants
  • be persistent and patient when working with program participants in order to meet goals
  • refer participants to additional resources when appropriate

In one year, success will look like:
You will be successfully managing a large volume of calls and emails to participants on a monthly basis and providing accurate documentation on the status of their relationship. You will have established rapport and trust with your current matches. You will have established a routine that works for your schedule. Because of this you are able to dictate your workflow and design a schedule that works for you.

Qualifications and Additional Information

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field, or the following combination of education and youth work experience
    • Within 6 months of completing bachelor’s degree
    • AA degree and 4 years relevant work experience
    • No degree, 8 years of relevant work experience
  • Previous work with youth, volunteers, and/or families strongly preferred

Additional Information:

  • Must have reliable transportation and/or valid drivers’ license and current auto insurance that meets minimum requirement
  • ~20 hours a week - including evenings, and weekends when necessary. This position can work flexible hours, with the understanding that you will need to be mindful of volunteer and family's schedules in order to complete goals.
