LJA Mission Statement:

The mission of Lake Junaluska is to be a place of Christian hospitality where lives are transformed through renewal of soul, mind and body.

Located in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina, Lake Junaluska is a conference and retreat center that hosts over 50,000 overnight guests annually.  We have over 400 lodging rooms, a campground, and meeting space for up to 2,000 people.  All of our facilities are located on a scenic 1,200 acre campus which boasts panoramic views, abundant recreation opportunities, and a 200 acre lake.   Our market ranges from youth groups to affluent leisure guests primarily from the Southeastern US.

 

Essential Functions

  • This role provides a pathway for the transformation of soul, mind, and body.
  • Assisting in the planning and facilitating of summer events and activities including, but not limited to:
    • Worship
    • Small and large group devotions
    • Music
    • Kayaking/Canoeing/Stand Up Paddle boarding
    • Rock wall climbing
    • Hiking
    • Landscaping
    • Maintenance
    • Housekeeping
  • Spending time with group participants during meals and some afternoon activities.
  • Providing administrative support, including registration, marketing and communication for Lake Junaluska hosted events and activities.
  • Participating and assisting in community events such as July 4th celebrations.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures and report any unsafe activities or conditions immediately to the supervisor or the Human Resources department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent leadership skills and demonstration of Christian faith in daily life and conduct.
  • Experience in leadership through local church, campus ministry, summer camp, or Conference Council on Youth Ministry preferred.
  • Ability to plan presentations and speak publicly to groups and individuals.
  • Evidence of high level of maturity and responsibility.
  • A minimum of one year of college or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and a commitment to providing responsive and conscientious customer service.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing needs, multiple task demands, and work structures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and emails.
  • Ability to present job related information upon request to customers, guests, and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to plan and organize, using Microsoft Office and email.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of customer, guest, and employee questions.
  • Willingness to work long hours.

Working Conditions

  • Light to moderate physical activity performing at times strenuous activities.
  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/venue setting with adequate ventilation; with moderate to loud noise.
  • Able to lift, push, pull or otherwise reposition objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to coordinate work, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, frequently moves about, able to stand, walk and sit for extended periods.
  • Uses hands and fingers to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • At times, be outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to see close, have good vision to perform daily duties.
  • Hours: Monday thru Sunday; days/nights/weekends/holidays as required with rotating days off.
