GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Manufacturing Process Engineer designs and implements systems, equipment and procedures used within manufacturing facilities. Their main duties include testing and monitoring equipment, updating current system processes, and promoting Lean Engineering best practices. In addition will coordinate and support tasks assigned to the engineering team by the Director of Engineering.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods during APQP process, and as continual improvement efforts dictate.
  • Oversees existing products to enhance the design and at the same time recommend cost reductions that will benefit both company and customer, thus reducing lead times.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Assists in costing and quoting of new products including tooling.
  • Prepares production drawings and submittal drawings in CAD.
  • Develop and maintain BOM’s, routers, ATP’s and other supplier data requirements list (SDRL) documents.
  • Assists the Sales Department with customer-related concerns. Technical support for sales/marketing.
  • Assists Quality Assurance and Purchasing Departments in the evaluation of new or existing suppliers.
  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency, utilizing standard Lean practices.
  • Assists Production personnel with prototypes and quality concerns as well as redesign of the factory floor for most efficient process flow.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases. Participates in Engineering Change Order reviews to assure the change does not adversely impact on process.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.

required skills

  • Professional work experience reviewing and analyzing prototypes and product modifications
  • Advanced understanding of business analysis techniques and processes, including recommendations in budget, and expenditures.
  • Knowledge of the Quality Management System policies, goals and objectives.  Assist with systems based on Lean principles and practices to meet or exceed the requirements of the established QMS and all other standards required to serve our target markets.

work experience requirements

  • Intermediate to expert level background using (CAD) software and Project management.
  • Proven high level of problem-solving skill. Familiarity with various RCCA tools (e.g. 8-D, A3, etc.)
  • Experience working with PTFE (Teflon) and/or Powdered metal
  • Preferred two to four years supervisory experience.

EDUCATION

Engineering degree from four-year college or university; or six to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
