Hours: Monday-Friday, 40 hour work week, with additional weekend and evening hours


The Assistant Director of Development reports to and manages the implementation of initiatives identified by the Director of Development for the fundraising and stewardship initiatives of the school.

The Assistant Director of Development assists in implementing a fundraising strategy established by the Director of Development and is responsible for coordinating and managing key fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship events (as well as any other special events) annually in order to foster community, facilitate engagement and generate revenue. Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Assistant Director manages the annual giving campaign and implements the Development departments marketing and communications strategy. The Assistant Director of Development effectively oversees and implements projects as needed to support the Development department as a whole.



Fundraising/Annual Campaign

  • Under the guidance of the Director of Development, manage the Annual Giving Campaign, including strategic goals, tactics timeline, and metrics for progress and assessment

  • In collaboration with the Director of Communications and Marketing, create and coordinate marketing materials for annual giving.

  • Work with Director of Development to create and facilitate internal and external Annual Giving communications plan, both in print and online

  • Manage and coordinate parent volunteers; including training and tracking volunteer efforts;

  • Work with the Database and Research Manager in maintaining accurate donor and prospect records.

  • Develop strategies and tactics for moving donors to progressively higher giving levels and for stewarding donors; tracks donors in the giving cycle.

  • Identify and qualify Major Gift prospects from the pool of donors to the annual fund, and work with the Director of Development on cultivation strategies.


Parent and Alumni Relations

  • Work with the Director of Development to oversee the activities and programs of the Parent Village (parent organization), including selection of officers, annual calendar planning, community building and fundraising events and committee meetings.

  • Oversee/support Parent Village officers and committee members in ongoing events and activities.

  • Work with the Director of Development to develop a strategic alumni outreach, engagement and cultivation plan with near- and long-term strategic goals and benchmarks for various metrics, including fundraising, communication, and participation as well as identification of major donors.

  • Conceive and organize alumni events, activities, and programs, including Alumni reunions, town hall meetings, arts events, Career Day and other networking events.

  • Work with Communications Department for Alumni communications needs such as, alumni e-newsletter, writing alumni profiles, articles, class notes, and alumni page on the website to quantifiably increase sustained engagement.

  • Build and maintain personal relationships with individual alumni through face-to-face meetings and written communications.

  • Develop the Jag Network as a resource for alumni and current students.


Event Planning, Execution, and Parent Volunteering

  • In collaboration with the Director of Development, be responsible for the planning and implementation of the key fundraising, cultivation and stewardship events, included (but not limited to) the Annual Gala (Kaleidoscope), Spring and Fall donor stewardship events, restricted fundraising events and more.

  • Organize and manage volunteers for fundraising events and activities;

  • In collaboration with the Director of Development and the Director of Communications and Marketing, responsible for implementing communication strategy to publicize events;

  • Work with the Director of Community Engagement on fund development, including but not limited to for-profit, non-profit, grants, foundations, and individual donors


Foundations and Grants

  • Support the Director of Development in exploring potential relationships with grantmakers and foundations; preparing grant proposals and reports and ongoing stewardship of foundation relationships.


Other Duties

  • Supports the Director of Development as needed

  • Capability of moving items weighing up to 30 pounds.

  • Willingness and capacity to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods throughout the work day.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer/printer.

  • Bachelors degree and a work history in fundraising, development and/or non-profit management required.
  • Experience with fundraising and development in an independent school setting preferred.

  • Fundraising and event planning experience preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Blackbaud database experience a plus

  • Strengths in organization, creativity, interpersonal skills, customer service

  • Previous fundraising and grant writing experience a plus

  • Ability to collaborate with multiple constituencies

  • Must enjoy working with the general public and be comfortable in social settings
