We’re looking for a similarly minded full-time legal assistant to work on-site at our downtown Vancouver location.

Our Legal Assistants are key components in our service delivery. Under the technical direction of a Paralegal, they provide a range of legal support, including a variety of clerical and administrative tasks. Responsibilities entail drafting and record-keeping activities to ensure a smoothly run office and great experience for our legal teams and clients alike.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist legal teams with opening new client files
  • Assist legal teams with drafting internal forms
  • Attend case status meeting with Attorneys and Paralegals and assist Paralegals in maintaining attendant Client Status Reports
  • Assist legal teams with drafting, filing, serving, and tracking general pleadings and documents/correspondence
  • Assist legal teams with creating initial client Master Information List in FamilySoft and preparing draft pleadings
  • Assist legal teams with preparing and tracking correspondence
  • Assist legal teams with case docketing
  • Assist legal teams with processing incoming and outgoing mail, and legal messenger deliveries, and provide copies to client
  • Assist legal teams with arranging for personal service and special messenger deliveries
  • Assist legal teams with scheduling telephone conferences, in-office appointments, and conference rooms, if needed
  • Assist legal teams with detailed categorization and indexing of client documents (tax returns, pay stubs, etc.)
  • Assist legal teams with assembling mediation materials, ER 904 Notices, Sealed Financial Source Documents, Joint Statement of Evidence, trial notebooks, and motion documents
  • Input time into billing system
Qualifications
  • At least 1-2 years of legal assistant experience is required; family law experience preferred
  • Knowledge of legal principles, research techniques and legal terminology
  • Ability to work well under pressure and strict deadlines
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Demonstrated intermediate MS Office Suite skill with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel 
  • Desire and aptitude to learn Adobe Acrobat, legal databases, and time and billing programs
  • Capacity to work regular office hours (8 am-5 pm) dependably in downtown Vancouver office
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional follow through
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Energetic and motivated, poised and professional
  • Exceptional customer service and willingness to problem solve
  • Collaborative demeanor with desire to work with and integrate into a diverse, fast-paced, and dynamic environment
  • Attire and appearance well-suited to a professional services firm
  • FamilySoft experience a plus
  • As essential on-site staff, the Legal Assistant must be able and willing to adhere to all office COVID protocols
