Essential Functions:
1.Disinfect and prepare dental operatory for patient procedures according to OSHA guidelines; sterilize instruments.
2.Anticipate the dentists’ needs by assisting during procedures using four-handed dentistry to pass instruments, oral evacuation, mixing dental materials, exposing and processing x-rays, taking impressions, coordinating lab cases, time management, scheduling patient appointments.
3.Mastery of patient education, presented in a compassionate and professional manner.
4.Respond to patient requests by screening for urgency to determine if emergency treatment is needed.
5.Accurately document finished or pending treatment in chart and/or dental software program.
6.May include expanded duties for fabricating and cementing temporary crowns, removing sutures, adjusting crowns, partials and dentures, constructing custom and whitening trays and/or polishing coronal surfaces of the teeth.
Physical Demands of Position:
Sitting in awkward positions for long periods of time; arms elevated, neck turned in order to see in patients mouth. Frequent changing from sitting to standing position and back. Infrequent light lifting.
Environmental/Working Conditions:
Indoor office environment. Continuous exposure to high-pitched noise from equipment. Some exposure to fumes/odors, allergens, disinfectants, x-ray equipment and some hazardous chemicals on a daily basis. Some exposure to infectious disease requiring diligent use of recommended safety precautions.
Equipment Used:
Hand pieces, surgical instruments, and internet based dental software.
Job Specifications
1.Dental Assistant certificate or degree preferred, 4 handed-dentistry, x-ray exposure and developing, and proper sterilization techniques preferred.
2.Must be able to stay alert in anticipation of doctor’s needs and have good time management skills.
3.Ability to operate business equipment and dental clinical equipment such as x-ray machine. Keyboard experience is essential.
4.Professional patient contact skills are required, including compassion for patients.
5.Must be able to concentrate and maintain close attention to detail using visual and tactile senses.
6.Skilled in English grammar and spelling is required.
7.Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
8.Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
9.Ability to keep a positive, calm attitude in stressful situations.
10.Ability to work harmoniously within a team.
