LJA Mission Statement

The mission of Lake Junaluska is to be a place of Christian hospitality where lives are transformed through renewal of soul, mind and body.

Located in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina, Lake Junaluska is a conference and retreat center that hosts over 50,000 overnight guests annually.  We have over 400 lodging rooms, a campground, and meeting space for up to 2,000 people.  All of our facilities are located on a scenic 1,200 acre campus which boasts panoramic views, abundant recreation opportunities, and a 200 acre lake.   Our market ranges from youth groups to affluent leisure guests primarily from the Southeastern US.

Essential Functions

  • Must possess excellent hospitality skills and a strong desire to foster an attitude of “exceeding guest’s expectations”.
  • Be on time to all job assignments.
  • Responsible for carrying out the essential functions of the daily job assignment. To include, but not limited to;
      • Housekeeping – Hotels, Laundry, or Custodial
      • Food Services – Banquet staff, Dishwasher, Kitchen Assistant
      • Meeting Room Setup
      • Recreation -  kayaks/Canoes/Paddle boards
      • Pontoon Boat Driving ( must meet age and other boating requirements)
      • Landscaping – planting, weeding, laying mulch and more
      • Maintenance – assist with light assignments, such as painting
  • At times, may provide;
    • Administrative support, including registration, marketing and communication for Lake Junaluska hosted events and activities.
    • Participating and assist with community events such as July 4th celebrations.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures and report any unsafe activities or conditions immediately to the department supervisor or the Human Resources department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and 1-3 months relevant experience.
  • Hospitality experience strongly desired.
  • MUST be willing to work a flexible schedule
  • Must have demonstrated good communication skills, client relation skills, and a commitment to providing responsive and conscientious customer service.
  • Ability to effectively present job related information upon request to customers, clients, and employees of the organization.
  • Proven organizational skills and interpersonal skills are required. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule formats.
  • Evidence of high level of maturity and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and a commitment to providing responsive and conscientious customer service.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing needs, multiple task demands, and work structures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and emails.
  • Ability to present job related information upon request to customers, guests, and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of customer, guest, and employee questions.
  • MUST be willing and available to work any day of the week, day or night shifts, and available to work on holidays and overtime when needed.

Working Conditions

  • Moderate physical activity performing at times strenuous activities.
  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office/hotel/venue setting with adequate ventilation; with moderate to loud noise.
  • Able to lift, push, pull or otherwise reposition objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to coordinate work, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, frequently moves about, able to stand, walk and sit for extended periods.
  • Uses hands and fingers to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • At times, be outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to see close, have good vision to perform daily duties.
  • Hours: Monday thru Sunday; days/nights/weekends/holidays as required with rotating days off.
