- Willingness and reliable capacity to travel daily between production facilities if needed.
- Willingness to work weekends during harvest
- Ability to lift (up to 50 lbs), carry (up to 44 lbs) occasionally to frequently within normal limits.
- Willingness to work in agricultural environment where environmental conditions can change from cool to hot throughout the day.
- Handle hazardous chemicals safely according to their SDS’s and SOP’s.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Job Summary:
Yakima Chief Hops is seeking a motivated team member to assist in hop harvest studies. This position is centered around assisting the Field Research Agronomist is field sampling and analysis of hop samples. A strong candidate pays close attention to detail, has strong communication skills, and works well in a team environment. This position shall be filled mid-August through October.
Time Frame: 10-week internship program with a target hire start date of August 15th 2022
Job Duties:
- Travel to hop farms to sample hop plants
- Transport hop sample to varying processing facilities
- Record observations and pertinent data in laboratory notebook or approved company forms
- Prepare hop samples for analysis and analyze according to company’s SOP’s
- Operate laboratory equipment such as laboratory oven, ultra-low temperature freezer, freeze dryer, distillation apparatuses, moisture balance, water activity meter, hop grinder and UV Spectrophotometer.
- Record data in appropriate excel sheets as designated by Field Research Agronomist.
- Handle all chemicals safely, properly and store in proper containment.
- Dispose of hazardous waste properly and legally.
- Clean all necessary glass ware and equipment and return to proper storage
- Maintain sanitary and safe work environment and follow safety requirements.
- May actively participate on company’s Safety Committee.
- Ensure that company safety policies as well as federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations are observed.
- Must have a complete understanding of company’s policies, SOPs, QPs, EPs, HACCP and cGMP that pertain to their department to ensure quality, safety, efficiency and sustainability.
- Must adhere to all company policies.
- Examine documents, materials, and products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards and specifications.
- Follow all SOPs in a given area.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Manager and/or designee.
