Description

Do you love retail, but not working through the holidays?  We are looking for you to join our Retail Team as a Part Time Retail Sales Associate for our Allen location. 

JOB SUMMARY

The Retail Sales Associate is a key employee in maintaining good retail customer service in the GSNETX shop.  Responsible for serving customers which include GS volunteers, parents and girls as well as internal staff customers.  In many areas, they are the first face of GSNETX for those customers and need to become well versed in the GS Programs, Journeys, Girls Guides to Girl Scouting, National Badges and Council Badges and Patches.  Position is part time up to 29 hours per week, working a few week days and some Saturdays..

 

RETAIL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)

  • Provides prompt, courteous service to a diverse customer base, including assisting customers with merchandise selections and helping with program needs.  This may include, but not limited to, GS and GSNETX merchandise, help with location of Program or event information on the website, help direct questions to the proper department.
  • Remain knowledgeable of council programs, camp offerings, leadership trainings, and geographic membership areas.
  • In most locations, answer the main phone line at the Service Center.  Must stay up to date on staffing/ departmental updates.
  • Perform all facets of retail sales operations utilizing the POS system, including sales, returns, exchanges, gift cards, financial aid and financial reporting within assigned retail shop.  .
  • Accurately handles inventory transfers between retail locations using POS system.
  • May be responsible for some ordering, receiving, pricing, stocking, and displaying shop merchandise.
  • May be asked to assist with training of new shop personnel and attend council and departmental trainings as needed.
  • Assists with inventories – preparation, cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
  • Ensures proper and accurate receipt of money, checks and other types of payments, using the POS system.  May be asked to make timely bank deposits.
  • Assist with maintaining appearance and function of service center facilities.
  • Assists with shop displays when needed, which includes moving fixtures and boxes. 
  • Help plan and coordinate season GS celebrations throughout the year.  i.e. Juliette Gordon Low’s Birthday, First day of Cookie Sales, GS Birthday, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge of office equipment, including postage machine, fax machine, copiers and printers, security systems and cameras and utilize the IssueTrak system for repair requests.
  • Remain knowledgeable of council programs, camp offerings, leadership trainings, and geographic membership areas.
  • Answer main phone line at Service Center.
  • Must stay up to date on staffing/departmental updates.
  • Assists with the maintenance and organization of the distribution/volunteer/free materials area.
  • Assists with the administration of the council’s library and maintaining records for check out of supplies, materials, program trunks, etc. and return of all items.
  • May be responsible for filling, mailing and maintaining records for phone, eCommerce and in-shop customer orders.
  • Supports and participates in area recruitment events, Mobile shops for Annual Meeting, Mall Madness, SASSY Camps, Kick-Off, etc. as needed.
  • Accurately distributes GSNETX Council Free Patch programs by following assigned process and procedures.  Makes sure to run all items through the POS system to maintain correct inventory control.
  • During Summer Hours, helps other departments with specific projects during non-retail shop hours.  Assignments are determined by location and need.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Retail sales and POS system experience preferred
  • Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts.
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff members, visitors, volunteers, and the general public via telephone, email and in person.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced work environment with ability to multi-task while maintaining composure.
  • Ability to comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions and directions.
  • Basic level of experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and POS systems, or the ability and willingness to learn.
  • Effective communicator verbally and in writing, bi-lingual asset, but not required.
  • Work requires normal physical effort for primarily an office environment; some physical effort in handling of materials or boxes and tools or equipment of up to 25 pounds in non- strenuous work.  Some periods of continual standing or walking may be required.  Movement of merchandise to and from mobile shop events may be required.
  • Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, respect and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom her/his job puts her/him in contact
