Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lifeguard is responsible for participating as a member of the outdoor team in the assigned aquatic activity during weekend camping and to carry out specific responsibilities for the planning and implementation of the Girl Scout and aquatic programs in an outdoor setting. This position is also responsible for the safeguarding of participants’ health, safety, and security in the waterfront/aquatic area while providing a fun waterfront/aquatic experience. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Serves as a lifeguard during camp as assigned.
•Prepares, directs, and carries out assigned waterfront activities with troops, service unit and other groups, following all Girl Scout program standands, safety and security guidelines, and GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints.
•Responsible for compliance with ACA standards, Texas Department of State Health, GSUSA Policies, and operational procedures, regulations and standards
•Serves as and is responsible for being a role model for other girls and adults in behavior and attitude while following the Girl Scout Promise and Law and current GSNETX policies.
•Remains alert and responds to potential hazardous situations, including following current, established emergency procedures.
•Participates in waterfront activities including but not limited to housekeeping kapers, rescue skills review, equipment maintenance, and supervising participant interactions.
•Willing to conduct alternative, supervisor provided, indoor activities during times of inclement weather when use of the waterfront area is not feasible.
•Follows GSNETX policies and operational procedures, regulations and standards.
•Follow all established acquatic procedures.
•Monitor weather conditions and use current emergency procedures when inclement weather is imminent.
•Performs all other duties, as assigned, or as delegated by their supervisor

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS—Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA’s):

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Must have current ACA recognized Lifeguard Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with adults and children ages 5 and above.
  • Knowledge and understanding of philosophy and program of Girl Scouting or willingness to learn about Girl Scouting
  • Flexible and creative in carrying out responsibilities
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to function as part of a team

  • Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, before and after hours, and on weekends, when required
  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, work in an office environment, work in a seated position, and work with computers.

The employee must be able to drive and have a valid driver’s license. The employee must be able to lift or move 40 pounds or perform light work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Activities occur both inside and outside and employee is subject to both environmental conditions; however, employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Must complete “Protecting Our Girls” GSNETX training,

CPR/AED First Aid training, which are required prior to first contact with campers.

Certification as a Lifeguard.
