Assistant Lab / X-Ray Technician

POSITION: Assistant Lab/X-ray Technician

SALARY: $17.79-$22.98, per hour DOE

REPORTS TO: Lab Manager

LOCATION: Medical Billing; Nespelem, Washington

Basic Functions:  The Assistant Lab/Xray Technician reports to the Lab Manager.  The individual Operates laboratory/Xray equipment in accordance with local, state, and federal standards.  Maintains laboratory/Xray equipment and facilities.  Must be qualified and well-versed in relevant matters, be caring, communicative, and experienced in dealing with the public and clinical staff.  Performs laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, identifying, assigning accession numbers, sorting, preparation and internal laboratory distribution of blood, urine, and other biological specimens.  Assist patients in correct table placement and limb positioning for X-ray imaging. Performs data processing and clerical tasks as required.  This position is located at the Inchelium Clinic but must be willing to cover at the San Poil Clinic as needed.  If training is required, the individual will train at the Inchelium Clinic.  Our goal for this position is to contribute to the overall patient satisfaction for their laboratory services.



Education and Training: 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of clinical laboratory experience or completion of laboratory assistant training. (On the job training available while not preferred)
  • Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Credential from the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Xray technician credential through the State of Washington Department of Health (required but will allow 2 years to complete), and registration.
  • Required to addend basic Xray techniques in Billings, MT.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Background in healthcare preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Operate laboratory/X-ray equipment in accordance with local, state, and federal standards.
  • Maintain laboratory/X-ray equipment and facilities through performing operator maintenance, and schedules annual and any other regular maintenance as required per manufacturer and/or governing statute.  Able to troubleshoot when presented with obstacles.
  • Ensures proper patient and staff safety standards are met through compliance with laboratory/X-ray safety standards.
  • Performs laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, identifying, assigning accession numbers, sorting, preparation and internal laboratory distribution of blood, urine, and other biological specimens.  As well as X-ray reports.
  • Respond to inquiries concerning patient lab values, reference ranges, specimen requirements, procedures, time required for tests, and preparation of specimens to outside labs for analysis.
  • Perform data processing and clerical tasks as required.
  • Perform phlebotomy and basic knowledge of anatomy on patients to obtain laboratory samples.  Performs urine, stool collection and processes tissue samples
  • Operate laboratory equipment such as microscopes, lead, piccolo, INRatio, autoclaves, Clinitek 50, CBC, centrifuges and properly collect various lab samples. Operate X-ray quantum medical imaging board and related table.
  • Responsible for ensuring laboratory specimens are drawn and analyzed according to established standards of care.
  • Responsible for correct positioning of patients and X-ray equipment for optimal imaging.
  • Performs all duties using universal precautions and appropriate protective equipment as required to reduce exposure to infection, bloodborne pathogens and hazardous materials.
  • Ensures proper packaging and shipment of lab specimens.
  • Follows CLIA guidelines.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and maintain inventory of stock.


Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.




If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.  In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.  If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment. Documented Covid-19 vaccination is required.
