University Prep is seeking a talented, engaging and compassionate Librarian to help us advance our vision of being an inclusive community of learners that provides an outstanding education for each individual in a diverse student population. Job Summary:

Under general supervision, provides information literacy and technology instruction, reading advocacy, and information management.



Specific Responsibilities:

  • Enthusiasm for working in a middle and upper school environment and familiarity with current young adult literature
  • Collaborates with teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction
  • Plans and integrates Information Literacy skills throughout the curriculum
  • Delivers Information Literacy instruction in any learning space within the school
  • Empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
  • Instills a love of learning in all students and ensures equitable access to information
  • Provides reading advocacy through library design, exhibits, book talks, promotions, programs, book clubs, social media and new technologies (e.g., QR codes), etc.
  • Selects, catalogs, and promotes materials to support the curriculum
  • Maintains the library environment, services and resources
  • Orients new faculty, staff, and students to library programs and procedures
  • Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the schools constituencies
  • Vigorously engages in their own professional development; is a life-long learner who enhances their skills, using state-of-the-art technologies to maintain high standards of performance to produce work products efficiently and effectively
  • Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the schools documents
  • Since safety and security are everyones responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Actively participates in the life of the school by supporting student activities, for example advisory, clubs, affinity groups, chaperoning, Commons Care, and outside presence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university required
  • Degree or certificate in library science required, Masters preferred
  • Experience in school environment preferred


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
  • Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Flexibility, maturity and a sense of humor
  • Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows environment, using Office, including Outlook; ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology; experience with school-focused technology is a plus


Compensation & Benefits


Starting salary range is $54,500 - $63,500.
