Position Description (Full-Time, Exempt)

Bent Tree – experiencing and sharing the love of Jesus.

POSITION TITLE

Young Adults Pastor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Adult Ministry Pastors at Bent Tree provide environments for people to experience and share the love of Jesus through connecting in relationships. It’s in the context of these relationships that we believe people grow best as disciples.

The Young Adult Pastor will:

  • Demonstrate a thriving life in Christ.
  • Engage the culture to share the love of Christ.
  • Specifically target adults who have graduated high school through those in their early 30’s but also serve the entire Bent Tree adult population as needed.
  • Disciple & equip group, study and serving team leaders as they serve as shepherds.
  • Nurture people and serve them through sacerdotal duties.
  • Live out the indwelling Christ and reproduce yourself as a disciple and leader.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experienced in leader development: discipling, training, coaching and multiplying servant leaders, especially small group leaders.
  • Experienced in leading and facilitating small groups.
  • Experienced in mobilizing servants to meet various needs in the church and surrounding community.
  • Ability to perform sacerdotal duties (weddings, funerals, baptisms, communion).
  • Skilled in communication (listening, asking appropriate questions, coaching, teaching, and vision-casting).
  • Skilled in using social media platforms for the purpose of engaging those on the fringe of the church as well as those at the core with a goal of moving people to closer relationship with Jesus and the church.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in interpreting and applying Scripture to personal life, counseling, teaching, leading and equipping.
  • Skilled in using various computer software or adapting quickly to new platforms. You will handle your own administrative tasks.

DUTIES

  • Lead adults by example in listening and responding to Jesus, allowing the fruit of the Spirit to guide all relationships, engaging the culture, and interacting with non-believers.
  • Continually assess the needs of adults and partner with staff and leaders to develop ways to address them.
  • Provide strategic mid-level gatherings to help adults take their next step with Jesus and the church.
  • Identify and develop new leaders for groups, studies, and serving teams.
  • Be a mentor and coach in order to develop existing leaders.
  • Plan and lead appropriate ministry to young adult pre-married couples, with the goal of preparing them for marriage as well as connecting them into ongoing community.
  • Provide pastoral and sacerdotal duties such as weddings, funerals, baptisms, communions, counseling, and hospital visitation. 
  • Participate with the Adult Ministries Team on planning and executing ministry to adults including training and budgeting.
  • Interact in one-on-one meetings, team meetings, leadership gatherings, and visits to groups for the purpose of discipling, coaching and equipping.
  • Care for staff, leaders, and group, study and team members through spiritual nurturing.
  • Pray regularly. Seek God’s guidance for the church, the leadership, the ministry, and those who are exploring Jesus.
  • Meet with Adult Ministry Team weekly for prayer and ministry execution
  • Perform other duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the Church.
Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • College degree
  • Seminary training degree preferred
  • 2 years ministry experience

  • Bent Tree member or willing to become one as a condition of employment

  • Active, growing relationship with Jesus Christ

  • Work with: Adult Ministry team, Bent Tree staff, servant leaders
  • Report to: Pastor of Adult Ministries
