Description

The Director, Community Engagement & Public Relations is responsible for day to day leadership, oversight, mentoring, education, and evaluation of the Community Engagement and Public Relations Department and its members to facilitate marketing, public relations and media campaigns to provide donation awareness, registry growth, and MTN branding in the designated service area. Responsible for strategies and action plans to improve awareness around organ and tissue donation, providing development in marketing and campaigns to enhance the experience of the donation community. Integrate each department at MTN into the overall message of the MTN mission and vision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Guides designated staff toward accomplishment of MTN’s Mission and goals; including training and development, coaching and counseling as well as routine departmental meetings and rounding with staff.       
  2. Participates in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, counseling, performance reviews, discipline, and termination, if necessary, of staff within the designated area.
  3. Provides ongoing staff training to ensure compliance with policies and staff development.
  4. Maintains current knowledge in the industry through participation in DLA and AOPO.
  5. Maintains professional relationships and rapport with MTN leadership and staff as well as media and outside stakeholders.
  6. Develops/maintains meaningful relationships with local media and responds to all media issues with immediacy as related to MTN to maintain a high level of service and support.
  7. Develops/maintains meaningful relationships with MTN hospital PR departments, prioritizing A hospitals and transplant centers.
  8. Forecasts, drafts, implements, and oversees the department’s operating budget in conjunction with Finance.
  9. Serves as a subject matter expert in the area of marketing, public relations and communications,

MARKETING, PUBLIC RELATIONS and COMMUNITY EDUCATION

  1. Establishes and implements an annual CE/PR service/marketing plan targeting external stakeholders throughout the service area that meet guidelines and standards.
  2. Performs all responsibilities of a CE/PR team member.
  3. Develops methods and tools to assess effectiveness of marketing/PR service efforts.  
  4. Assigns strategies and work efforts to coordinators based on capabilities, the best use of available resources, and the needs of the organization.
  5. Assists the staff in developing action plans for each strategy tailored to the needs of the stakeholder.
  6. Develops strategies and future action plans for increasing the number of registered donors within the donation services area, including outreach strategies to diverse communities. 
  7. Serves as a liaison between MTN and donor registries locally and nationally.
  8. Oversees the development of educational materials for presentations, in-services, seminars and meetings.
  9. Guides the MTN Ambassador Program, Newsletters, CEO Updates, Department of Motor Vehicles Outreach, Annual Updates and other programs geared towards enhancing MTN hospital and community partnerships.
  10. Serves as primary liaison between MTN and MTN’s contracted Public Relations Firm, working within the contracted services agreement.
  11. Provides proactive, real-time communication to Executive Leadership on critical issues and develops talking points to guide MTN outreach.
  12. Collaborates with executives to advise and counsel them on public relations techniques, awareness programs, demographic trends, and potential problems and opportunities.
  13. Manage conception, development, and implementation of marketing plan and strategies, product concepts, and promotional programs

GENERAL

  1. Maintains confidentiality of MTN business.

  4. Leads departmental meetings and actively participates in organizational meetings.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Seven or more years of senior marketing/communication experience in roles displaying increased responsibility required.   Experience in a hospital or healthcare related organization strongly preferred. 
  3. Strong organizational, problem analysis and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to motivate peers and achieve cooperation.
  4. Experience with digital and print marketing, content marketing and social media marketing required. 
  5. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.  May occasionally be required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.
  6. Detail oriented, organized, excellent tracking/reporting skills, effective written and verbal communication.
  7. Microsoft Office proficiency required.
  8. Adobe Creative Suite experience required.
  9. Content Management System (CMS) and social media publishing tools experience required.
  10. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.  Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.  Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  11. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  12. Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and office equipment.
  13. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
  14. OSHA Category III – No exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.
  15. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
