Head Varsity Coach, Boys Volleyball

New Roads School is seeking a skilled and motivated coach to assist New Roads students in reaching their highest potential. A coach who will put our students first, strive to educate the whole person, and make a difference in their lives. Responsibilities for this position include planning, organizing, and delivering appropriate coaching and providing guidance to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in the sport of Boys Volleyball.
Contracted season:
Practice Begins: January 2022
Regular Season Ends: April 30, 2022
CIF Playoffs: CIF-SS playoffs begin May 3, 2022 and continue to CIF State Southern California Regional Finals on May 21, 2022
Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Establish and maintain, open professional, and respectful communications with students, parents, teachers, and the athletics department.
  • Coaches will assist all individuals in their sport to grow socially and emotionally through the use of positive feedback and timely and sensitive communication.  
  • Being in charge of the entire Boys Volleyball program. Coach the varsity squad and supervise all assistant coaches.
  • Ensure that all coaches work together toward a common goal within their respected programs.
  • Work with the athletics department to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements (i.e., facilities, transportation, camps, etc.).
  • Communicate practice times, contest schedules, and other time commitments in writing to all members of their sport.
  • Coaches must keep informed and up to date on CIF and Coastal League rules.
  • Maintain inventory of all uniforms and equipment within the program.
  • Coaches will attempt to promote school spirit, team spirit, and cohesiveness.
Required Qualifications

• A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school 
• Previous experience playing the sport of Volleyball at a high school varsity, AAU, collegiate or professional level.
• Demonstrated and in-depth, fundamental knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the sport of Volleyball.
• Ability to increase students’ understanding of game strategy and develop players’ individual areas of growth.
• Demonstrate the highest level of character and professionalism with excellent ethics 
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all athletic participants.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with a broad and diverse school community
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality
• Must pass a LiveScan fingerprinting background check
• Applicants must submit a COVID19 vaccine card and agree to weekly COVID-19 testing
• A clean driving record and valid California driver’s license. Will be subject to clearance through the California Motor Vehicles Report (MVR) and the standards for driving set by SHS insurance underwriters.

• Employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, no later than the first date of work, and to receive any and all COVID-19 vaccination boosters recommended for fully vaccinated persons by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and/or the Los Angeles County Public Health Department no later than the date set forth by the School, unless employee requests and the School grants an exemption to the COVID-19 vaccination requirement as a reasonable accommodation for employees disability or sincerely held religious belief, practice, or observance.

Preferred Qualifications
• High School diploma or GED equivalent or higher education preferred
• Previous high school or college coaching experience is preferred
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to gain proficiency)
