Position Overview

The Product Director – Outdoor is responsible for managing the engineering team and processes to bring cross-country skiing, backcountry safety, snowshoe, pole, and helmet products to market for Elevate Outdoor Collective. The Director works with the Brand Leads, Marketing, Graphics, Sales, Operations, and Product Line Management teams to ensure the products have industry leading quality, delivery, value, and innovation. The Director is also responsible for ensuring the supply chain meets the technical requirements and has the process capabilities required for each product category.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Brand Leads and PLM’s to create new product launch opportunities with high return on investment.
  • Develop plans to properly resource product development projects with engineering time, operational budget, and capital investment.
  • Ensure development timelines and processes are established and achieved for product design, testing, quality validation, commercialization, and quality control
  • Ensure products are of high quality to meet market needs, meet safety standards, exhibit low factory off-quality rates, and low warranty return claims. 
  • Execute product development on-time to allow successful sample and mass-production delivery. Tracking work completion against deadlines and taking corrective action to keep work on time.
  • Coordinate with design team to ensure all aesthetic work is completed on-time.
  • Manage product costing. Analyze costing details and find solutions to reduce waste in materials and processes and increase value to our consumers
  • Bring innovative product solutions to market to excite consumers and grow sales
  • Ensure there are optimal processes for file hand-off, approval tracking, and storage.
  • Build and successfully control Operational and Capital expense budgets
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and motivate direct engineering reports
  • Communicate the status and direction of the product team’s work during executive strategic reviews.
  • Support the marketing and selling functions as required
  • Maintain a collaborative and strong working relationship with our factories

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience managing the engineering of consumer hardgoods
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Strong engineering and project management skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing and challenging business environments
  • Proficiency in business and scheduling software
  • Proficiency in process and quality improvement techniques
  • Track record of budget building and achievement

  • Ability to sit in front of computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to speak and hear
  • May be required to lift 15-50 pounds occasionally
