Description

Responsible for assisting with the organ procurement procedure and the maintenance of organ procurement surgical equipment and operating rooms.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

DONOR COORDINATION AND ORGAN RECOVERY

  1. Strong working knowledge of operating room etiquette and sterile technique.
  2. Facilitates the safe and effective organ procurement procedure, ensuring the operating room environment is safe and that equipment functions properly.
  3. Functions in the first scrub role handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the organ procurement procedure, anticipates needs of the surgeon, and maintains the sterile field.
  4. Assists with organ procurement procedures when Surgical Organ Recovery Specialists are utilized.
  5. Assists with organ recovery when MTN local transplant programs recover an organ outside the MTN donor service area.
  6. Ability to coordinate the organ recovery process, make appropriate decisions and effectively communicate with appropriate parties.
  7. Ability to recognize and identify normal anatomy.
  8. Ability to flush, package and label all organs according to policies and procedures.
  9. Basic knowledge of federal, state and industry laws/regulations related to organ recovery including OPTN, CMS, and OSHA.
  10. Assists with management of major equipment needed for organ procurement, such kidney perfusion pumps, cautery, suction machines, slush machines, etc.
  11. Knowledge of and assist the Recovery Suite Compliance Coordinator with instrument processing and sterilization procedures.
  12. Assist with supply management and stocking of organ operating room supplies
  13. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal MTN staff, hospital staff, transplant center partners, and others involved in the donation process.
  14. Serves as resource to recovery surgeons on SOPs and recovery protocols.
  15. Completion of QA and QI processes as required by MTN Policies and Procedures.
  16. Maintenance of donation information in MTN database and UNET.

  5. Completes monthly review and acknowledgement of departmental and organizational meeting minutes.

  7. Ability to read and comprehend patient charts.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Certification in surgical technology and a minimum of one year experience in a clinical environment required.
  2. OR process knowledge and excellent knowledge of sterilization techniques.
  3. Ability to work a minimum of two 24 hour on call shifts per month. Required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.
  4. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy. Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines. Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  5. Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; demonstrated problem-solving and creative thinking skills and well-developed personal stress management skills.
  6. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  7. Possess ability to operate telephones, computers, and surgical equipment.
  8. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information to donor families, hospital staff and transplant/procurement personnel in person or by phone.
  9. OSHA Category I – Exposed regularly to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties. Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
  10. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
