Description

Essential Functions

  1. Lead the strategic planning and implementation of all foundation and government fundraising activities for the organization, as well as any related capital campaigns.
  2. Continuously develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of city, county, state, and federal government funding opportunities and determine which opportunities strategically align with DWCs organizational priorities and capacity.
  3. Identify foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities matched to DWC programs and activities, develop understanding of the criteria and priorities applicable to each granting program, and pursue promising funding leads
  4. Develop and maintain relationships with funding agencies, program officers, collaborating organizations, and internal departments. Effectively coordinate between all constituents from prospecting through closeout.
  5. Work across agency to identify programmatic funding needs and ensure competitiveness and efficiency in grant applications.
  6. Direct internal grants process: identify measurable goals and objectives for program development and compile program outlines, materials, and data to write compelling narrative; develop grant budgets and grants calendar, delegate grant writing activities, work with Finance, Operations, and Program staff to monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with all public and private grant requirements.
  7. Collaborate with Communication and Development team to engage new and existing foundation and institutional partners and enhance relationships through grants, event sponsorships, volunteer opportunities, and in-kind donations.
  8. Support Board and Development Committee meetings as needed.
  9. Assist with additional activities in support of our annual Fund Development Plan, including annual and planned giving, capital campaigns, fundraising events, tours and presentations, and reporting.
  10. Additional duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position supervises a grants coordinator.

 

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday-Friday from 9am-5:30pm.

 

Travel
No travel is expected for this position.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelors degree required, advanced degree or relevant professional certification preferred
  2. Three to five years of progressive fundraising or grant writing experience required; public policy experience is a plus
  3. Three to five years of direct staff supervision experience
  4. History of developing and maintaining strategic partnerships
  5. Exceptional skill in comprehension, analysis, and technical writing, including the ability to articulate and explain complex funding and financial issues in a clear, non-technical manner
  6. Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment and proven experience managing large-scale projects

 

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Position Qualifications

  • Knowledge of government funding opportunities at local, state, and federal levels
  • Knowledge of foundation and corporate funding landscape for homeless/social service agencies

  • Demonstrated success as a team player, including the ability to develop and maintain a goal-oriented, positive attitude throughout the organization
  • Ability to comfortably interface with Board Members, Leadership, donors, and general DWC community
  • Compassion and understanding of DWCs unique approach to service provision
