Description

SUMMARY:

The relationship of faculty to student is one of leader, teacher, adviser, mentor, scholar, and facilitator or learning. As part of this process, the College of Chiropractic faculty is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering highly engaging courses that deliver and assess course outcomes that align with program outcomes using evidence-informed content and pedagogical approaches. In addition to engaging classroom teaching, this highly engaged faculty member will be involved with university service and actively engage in scholarship at the level appropriate to their rank or higher and will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence that includes an ability to incorporate innovative strategies an integrate technology appropriately into their teaching.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Foster a positive, learning centered community consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the institution and the college in a positive, ethical and professional manner.

  • Meet students where they are academically and take them where they need to be academically.
  • Instill a passion for learning and for the profession of chiropractic.
  • Be comfortable with professional and academic discourse provided it is conduced respectfully.
  • Meet the faculty expectations outlined in the faculty handbook, contract, workload, and as directed by his/her supervisor.
  • Attend class as scheduled, prepared, using course time effectively and maintaining professional conduct at all times.
  • Provide timely feedback on all assessments, questions, and address concerns as they arise.
  • Provide formative and summative feedback with the understanding that each moment is a learning opportunity.
  • Utilize the academic alert system to provide timely feedback on potential at risk triggers in a timely manner.
  • Maintain regular weekly office hours convenient to the needs of students.
  • Post a clear course syllabus using the standard course syllabus template with clear course expectations and posted as directed by supervisor.
  • Treat colleagues, staff, and students in a professional manner.
  • Participate in the shared governance system in a positive and collaborative fashion to support continuous improvement of the curriculum, delivery and culture of the institution and to ensure policies and procedures remain focused on maintaining high standards while providing appropriate support for student needs.
  • Participate in university ceremonies, meetings, and celebrations.
  • Accountable to report to the faculty supervisor if he/she will be absent or unable to attend course/clinic or will need to vacate scheduled responsibilities prior to schedule ending and how those responsibilities will be covered.
  • Notify appropriate Logan personnel of damage to Logan property.
  • Read, understand and follow all Faculty Handbook information and policies.
  • Responsible for other reasonable duties as assigned.
  • Clear evidence of staying abreast of the latest professional advances.
  • Must appreciate the history of the chiropractic profession while having foresight into how the chiropractic profession fits into the future healthcare model.
  • Continually assess themselves, their students, and their teaching techniques in order to increase effectiveness.
  • Only faculty and staff who hold the required licensure may provide clinical care at a Logan University property, affiliated facility, or sponsored event. All clinical services must be provided in a setting approved by Logan University.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have:

  • Doctor of Chiropractic degree from a CCE accredited institution, or, in the case of degrees from non-U.S. institutions, an equivalent degree as determined by an approved credential evaluation service.
  • License from the state of Missouri (or the state in which they are providing teaching and clinical services)
  • Preference will be given to individuals with at least three years of practice experience and at least five years of proven classroom experience.
