Position Description

The Director of Research and Organizational Development will oversee the research and evaluation of program delivery and leverage community feedback to inform the development and continuous improvement of Thread’s learning products. This position will lead Thread’s vision and framework for evaluation and impact to create measurable and sustainable growth. This individual will build and manage a team to evaluate and improve learning solutions for the entire Thread community. The Director and their team will work to understand needs across all community members, while bringing deep expertise in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

This Director will lead the research of exceptional performance-based learning solutions that support our vision and strategy and will reimagine, influence, champion, and refine the impacts of learning throughout the Thread community. This position calls for a leader who is a strategic forward-thinker, problem solver, and relationship builder who is adept at innovating while managing risk and exercising good judgment.

The successful candidate should have a strong background in applied research methods (qualitative and quantitative) combined with experience conducting community participatory-based research and user-centered design. The successful candidate should have strong familiarity with evaluation research, impact measurement, and indicator framework. Overall, this Director promotes a culture of equity, inclusion, learning, and building deep meaningful relationships. This position reports to the Vice President of Interconnection, and will also play a leadership role across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Establish and Maintain Thread’s EDI Strategic Direction

  • Responsible for establishing the vision and strategy that advances the importance and value of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community at Thread
  • Formulate strategic vision for EDI initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Direct, implement and advance Thread’s priorities on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • Manage EDI initiatives portfolio including racial equity project, organizational assessment, and Equity Team support
  • Define and analyze data that measure EDI progress
  • Partner with Thread community to design, develop, implement, and curate EDI trainings, workshops, and learning opportunities

Lead the Research Agenda

  • Sets a research agenda that is informed by the entire Thread Community
  • Validate & constantly improve the Logic Model & learning journeys for all community members
  • Lead engagements in research-practice partnership to bridge academic and practitioner communities
  • Discover new and improved ways to engage the Thread Community in learning moments
  • Lead the development of a systems-based evaluation framework which includes validating the effectiveness of program delivery
  • Provide support and oversight with designing evaluation strategies and tools, data collection, verification, analysis, and reporting
  • Research, develop and refine methodologies to document and measure progress toward organizational outcomes
  • Identify trends, research, and new publications in the field to inform the learning and measurement strategy and support specific research projects that support the development of new learning and assessment efforts

Lead the Impact Evaluation of Learning Products

  • Build, lead and coach a team to research and evaluate all Thread’s innovative training solutions that advance the mission
  • Leverage evaluation insights to inform the annual planning process and other processes to refresh, amend, and expand the Thread Logic Model and Thread Process Strategic Framework
  • Develop, implement, consolidate, and manage internal systems for conducting ongoing outcomes measurement and assessment
  • Working with the VP for Interconnection, oversee the preparation of updates and reports on key learning and impact for stakeholders
  • Leverage deep expertise in evaluation research and adult learning to inform the development of learning products
  • Prepare and manage the Research and Impact budget

 

Qualifications/Skills

Skills and Qualifications:

Specific qualifications are anticipated to include:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in social science, education, or related field;
  • Minimum 5 years experience in monitoring, evaluation, learning, and research roles, and academic training in advanced research methods, both qualitative and quantitative research methods;
  • Minimum 3 years experience in managing a product or program development function;
  • Progressive experience in providing strategic technical expertise on collaborating, learning, and adapting to donors, governments, implementing partners, or the private sector;
  • Experience in project management and successfully implementing large-scale strategic initiatives with proven track record in prioritizing competing priorities;
  • Demonstrated ability to counsel and partner with key business leaders;
  • Outstanding collaboration, and communication skills, including excellent writing abilities;
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Proven ability to influence and drive change
  • Applied expertise in facilitating discussions on difficult topics, and coaching others in this area
  • Proactive management of risks, applying sound judgment and business acumen
  • Expert knowledge from the field of assessment and learning, including relevant methodologies, with a focus on complex social change
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing quantitative and qualitative tools that inform program strategy and communicate and share learning externally
  • Strong proficiency in the use of technology and applications to enhance learning
  • High cultural competency with a demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, justice
