CBFC Program Assistant

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City. 



The NYC Creating Breastfeeding Friendly Communities (NYC CBFC) Project, fund through a grant from the New York State Department of Health, is anchored in the Women’s Health Suites (WHS) within the Neighborhood Health Action Centers that target specific geographic areas within South Bronx (East Tremont, Claremont-Bathgate, Morrisania-Melrose, East Concourse-Concourse Village), East Harlem (East Harlem North and South) and Central Brooklyn (Brownsville, East New York/Pennsylvania Ave) to provide comprehensive, multi-level initiatives to increase breastfeeding friendly clinical practices, childcare centers and day care homes, worksites, Baby Café model support groups, as well as increase the capacity of local breastfeeding coalitions.



The CBFC Program Assistant will serve as the administrative and strategic support person for the NYC CBFC team. The CBFC Program Assistant reports to the CBFC Program Coordinator, who oversees the CBFC Initiative and is responsible for ensuring that the program is implemented as outlined.



  • Maintain inventory of office supplies and order new materials as needed
  • Create and maintain filing systems, both electronic and physical
  • Work with Program Coordinator and Research and Evaluation team to collect program data
  • Regularly update program, agency and NYSDOH databases
  • Assist Program Coordinator in identifying designation sites
  • Assist Program Coordinator in tracking site progress in completing designation requirements
  • Prepare communications, such as memos, emails, reports and other correspondence
  • Relay client, agency, partner concerns to the appropriate senior staff
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed, such as scheduling meetings and sending invites to attendees
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and executing CBFC-sponsored activities and other events.
  • High school diploma required, two-year degree preferred
  • Excellent communication, accounting and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office with an ability to become familiar with agency-specific programs and software
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Friendly and professional demeanor
  • Ability to take initiative yet follow policies and workplans

25 hours per week. This position will be funded through January 31, 2022, with possibility of extension.



$18 per hour



This position will be hired through a staffing agency.
