Head-Royce School is seeking a dedicated, culturally responsive, Counselor  to join our Student Wellness and Support team of specialists supporting students in our Upper School. The successful candidate will be committed to nurturing a diverse, inclusive community,  a good communicator, have prior school counseling experience, and demonstrate a genuine desire to work with children in this age group. 


The US School Counselor is responsible, with the administration, for developing the counseling program to promote and support our students’ social and emotional growth in the Upper School. The counselor is also available to provide consultation and workshops for faculty, administration and parents, and individual and group counseling to students as needed in Upper School. The counselor is part of the faculty who will join in the community fully.  In addition to counseling duties, the counselor oversees the Health program, which includes consent education, drug and alcohol education and comprehensive sexuality education, in collaboration with the Health teacher. And as a part of our k-12 community, the US Counselor will regularly consult and collaborate with Middle and Lower School counselors to support the community as well as their own professional development, discipline specific research, mandated reporting requirements and national trends.


  • Experience working with a diverse student population;

  • Proven ability to partner with students, families and administrators to effectively support students.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school, as well as outside partners (therapists)

  • Show a genuine enthusiasm for working with colleagues, sharing strategies, and exploring effective ways to enhance and support the student experience

  • Possess a passion for cultivating  an equitable and diverse school community

  • 2-5 years experience working in schools

  • An advanced degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Applied Psychology is required. 

  • Appropriate license, certification, and/or other documentation attesting to the candidate’s expertise in counseling is required; 

  • Independent school experience preferred.
