Summary: The Director of Board of Governance manages the operations of the PPGC Board of Directors.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as liaison between the Board of Directors, the President & CEO and Senior Leadership Team, ensuring the PPGC Board has the information needed to effectively represent the Planned Parenthood mission in the community and make informed decisions about the future of the organization. Works in close collaboration and partnership with the Executive Assistant in the Presidents office.
  • Oversees all Board, Committee, and Task Force administration. Manages a broad variety of tasks and projects necessary for the efficient operations of the PPGC Board to include preparing agendas; recording minutes; organizing logistical arrangements for meetings; and creating presentations, spreadsheets, and other materials. Creates and manages the Board Governance departmental budget.
  • Maintains current, up-to-date knowledge of Board of Director polices, requirements, and procedures as set forth in the corporate bylaws, SOPs and organizational accreditation standards. Responsible for managing Board compliance tasks and accreditation requirements.
  • Tracks Board and Committee terms, demographics and engagement. Supports recruitment efforts and manages the onboarding and orientation process. Builds relationships with Board members to ensure their talents and skills are being well utilized.
  • Works with staff across the organization in order to ensure the board is highly effective in carrying out its essential duties and governance responsibilities.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of nonprofit experience.
  • Strong ability to use feedback for proactive process improvement; ability to withstand the pressure of working in a fluid, deadline-driven environment.
  • High degree of flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, board members, outside customers, and affiliates.
  • Continual attention to detail in establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. Handles matters expeditiously and proactively.
  • Keen sense of discretion and judgment, professional demeanor, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy; outstanding work ethic and moral standards.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient, work independently, make educated decisions, and follow through on projects to successful completion.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint and Teams) and social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated track record with respect to detail orientation, accuracy, and handling confidential materials related to the Board operations.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree required

Language Skills

  • Excellent comprehension/written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to leverage brevity and succinctness to support Board and executive information flow
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, financial reports, and business
  • documents
  • Ability to write business correspondence and reports that conform to prescribed style and format
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, members of the public, and/or volunteer leaders

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume on paper and in Microsoft Excel

Computer Skills

  • Strong computer skills in the following areas: Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Sharepoint and Teams
  • Technologically savvy with regard to e-communication, facilitating videoconference meetings, and other online interactions
  • Process improvement-minded with a bias toward paperless and automated where practical
