Description

The Payroll is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll and supporting the execution of various HR operational activities within the organization. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll, compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and effective payroll administration. The Payroll Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams, implements process improvements, and provides internal support on HR procedures as needed.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Payroll Management:

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processes, including data entry, calculations, deductions, and payments.
  • Performs various journal entries, account reconciliations, and provide general ledger support.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees.
  • Maintain payroll records and data confidentiality.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries and resolve issues promptly.

 

Special Projects:

  • Lead or participate in special projects related to payroll, HR operations, or cross-functional initiatives.
  • Conduct research, analyze data, and provide recommendations to support project objectives.
  • Coordinate project tasks, allocate resources, and track progress to ensure timely completion.
  • Communicate project updates, findings, and outcomes to relevant stakeholders.

 

Finance Team Support:

  • Act as a backup for the finance team during their absence or peak periods with accounts payable.
  • Assist in financial processes, such as budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting as needed.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to reconcile payroll-related accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support the finance team in audits and financial reviews related to payroll and HR data.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information to facilitate decision-making.

 

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Stay up to date with payroll laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant tax and employment laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Prepare and submit required payroll and HR reports for internal review.
  • Participate in internal and external audits related to payroll and HR operations.

 

Process Improvement and Technology:

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency enhancement.
  • Collaborate with IT and HRIS teams to implement and maintain payroll and HR systems.
  • Streamline payroll workflows, automate manual processes, and eliminate redundancies.
  • Conduct regular audits and quality checks to ensure data accuracy and integrity.

This position is full-time and includes a competitive benefits package including paid time off (vacation and sick time), health and dental insurance, and vision benefits. The church pays 100% of group life insurance and short term and long disability insurances. The church also matches up to 3% of an employee’s contribution in the employer sponsored 403(B) Plan. Compensation and benefits is commensurate with skills and experience.

Qualifications

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, preferred
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in payroll and 3rd party Payroll experience (Paycom a plus)
  • Demonstrate proficiency Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word
  • Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels both in and out of the church.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to respond to departments, members, visitors, and all church staff in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills.
  • The ability to multi-task and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and uphold confidentiality.
