Position: Summer Camp Nurse AstroCamp CA
Location: AstroCamp - Idyllwild, CA
Responsible to: Camp Director/Site Director/ Consulting Physician & Lead Nurse Coordinator
We are looking for registered nurses for the following dates Nurses can do one week or multiple weeks:
June 10-16
June 17-23
June 24-30
July 2-8
July 8-14
July 22-28
Weekly Rate: $2500 (or trade for one child to attend program), Room & Board
AstroCamp is a mountain science adventure summer camp for kids ages 8-17 in Idyllwild, CA. We are located about 2.5 hours from Los Angeles and San Diego and 45 minutes from Palm Springs. We are looking for fun and caring nurses who will give each camper the individual attention that will make their stay and treatment at camp a positive experience. AstroCamp values our health team which consists of a nurse and EMT. Your role is imperative to the well-being of our campers and staff.
General Responsibilities:
Guide, monitor and manage the healthcare program to maintain a healthy camp community. Provide healthcare for members of the camp community effectively and efficiently, tending to the psychological and physical needs of each camper. Collect, log, store, and dispense all camper medications. Instruct the campers and staff on appropriate self-care to help promote the well-being of our community and prevent illness.
When not in the health center, we encourage our nurses to be a part of our camp community by joining in on the overall camp experience by participating in daily activities, and campfires. The health staff is provided with private lodging (located in the health center area), all meals, and laundry services.
Specific Duties:
Health Center

Work with others (RN, EMT, Assistants) to create schedules for daily tasks.

Maintain a positive, caring, upbeat, flexible, organized, and enthusiastic culture within the healthcare team

Make recommendations to the Camp Director to improve healthcare systems.

Follow OSHA and ACA standards pertaining to healthcare.

Assist with infirmary organization, cleanliness, stocking, and sanitation.

Manage the following medication needs:

Storage
-
Inventory
-
Disbursement
Community Health
-
Assist with organizing, storing, and reviewing staff and camper health records.

Consult with the Camp Director concerning healthcare issues for members of the community, as needed and as appropriate

Perform arrival health checks for staff and campers.

Manage individual medications for campers.
-
Provide accurate and proper documentation regarding health in the community.

Work with Trip Leaders to prepare and manage first aid kits.

Brief Trip Leaders regarding their trip participants and any pertinent healthcare information.

Attend to sick or injured campers and staff.
-
Attend to campers and staff with emotional or psychological needs.

Remain on-call for urgent overnight camper or staff needs.

Communicate necessary information regarding individual camper health concerns to the Camp Director and, possibly, camper parent(s), as needed and as appropriate.

Provide healthcare at special events

Assist with any other needs throughout the summer.
Other Duties

Advise and participate during emergency situations, including satellite phone calls from off-site trips

Perform other healthcare duties as needed or assigned.

Maintain clear communication lines with the Camp Director during the summer.
