Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)
- Minimum age 18
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination unless a qualifying exemption is needed
- Experience in institutional or large food service setting
- Knowledge of and experience in food service: food preparation, family-style serving, buffet serving, cleaning, and institutional kitchen equipment
- Must hold current certification or licensure for operating a kitchen in the camp’s jurisdiction or be willing and able to obtain the correct certification
- Supervisory experience desired
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current health and safety laws and practices is essential
- Knowledge of and experience in preparation of special dietary foods
- Ability to motivate and maintain effective working relationships with staff from diverse cultures and all organizational levels
Physical and Intellectual Aspects of the Job:
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
- Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior
- Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more)
- Ability to safely and properly use kitchen equipment
- Ability to provide first aid and to assist campers and staff in an emergency
OTHER WORKING CONDITIONS
Some physical requirements of the Kitchen Shift Manager position could be endurance including standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires the ability to listen to others, observe others’ actions, read text and information; comprehend instructions and manuals, and physical ability to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering program in the facility available. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and other environmental conditions.
While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee lives for up to 12 weeks in close proximity to others, including sharing living quarters, restrooms, laundry facilities and a common staff lounge. May only use personal electronics (such as computers, phones and other devices) only during personal designated breaks and out of sight of campers. Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment is an integral part of this position.
