Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Accountabilities
- Become knowledgeable of the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center bike terrain and where to take guests to learn and practice mountain bike skills.
- Check mountain bike guests in including waiver check, bike sizing, rental agreements, payment, and lodge/trail access.
- Wash bikes and make sure electric bikes have a full charge.
- Gather proper clothing, accessories like helmet and gloves etc, provisions, maps as needed.
- Give guests an overview of biking including planned distances, difficulties, duration, routes, and fundamental skills.
- Guide guests in various bike exercises including theory, drills, terrain features, and trail riding.
- Pay attention at all times to ensure safety by managing guest skills vs terrain, ensuring weather conditions match supplies, and ensuring the bike is working properly.
- Perform basic maintenance on rental and private bikes including simple repairs like fixing flats, chain lubing, fork adjustment, brake checks, and sizing bike to a guest.
- Other duties as assigned (this position could combine with summer camp counselor, biathlon instructor and facilities maintenance to provide more or even full-time hours)
Required Knowledge and Essential Skills
- Experience working with the public or willingness to do so
- Friendly manner, public speaking, and good communication skills
- Must enjoy working in a team environment and working closely with small groups of the public for and extended period (bike lessons are 2.5 hours)
- Sufficient knowledge of mountain biking with riding skills at least an intermediate level and willingness to learn best practices in teaching theory
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must be available Saturdays (could be the option for other days depending on your availability and customer interest)
Environmental Job Requirements
- Ability to manage outdoor work in the heat, cold, sun, and rain
- Must be able to arrange transportation to the Nordic Center
- Must be able to work with other user groups and employees in a friendly and accommodating manner
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move 50-pound ebikes without power
- Must be able to stand on feet for and extended time
- Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, adjusting focus, and attentiveness for hazards on venue especially the riding route
- Balancing, bending, climbing, kneeling, walking, pushing, reaching above shoulders, and sitting
