The Associate Media Director leads the strategy, planning and implementation of paid  media efforts on behalf of assigned agency clients and plays a critical leadership role within the team. Working with account leadership to identify paid media objectives and planning parameters, they define how communication will be delivered across various media channels, establishing the strategic framework for development and implementation of tactical plans. This position reports to Media Director (or Managing Director). 



• Serves as lead strategist and manager overseeing all media services on assigned accounts 
• Define approach for engaging target audiences and driving brand interactions to deliver upon communication objectives and business goals 
• Outline segmentation of media budgets, audiences and media mix to inform tactical planning 
• Work closely with other agency subject-matter experts to architect connected experiences across all online and offline channels and align paid, owned and earned media efforts 
• Oversee tactical planning, vendor negotiation and execution of paid media strategies  
• Work with media planner/buyer to create targeting strategies for effectively and efficiently reaching and engaging audiences 
• Work with account teams and other agency subject matter experts to develop measurement plans for campaign tracking, analysis and reporting based on media objectives and established KPIs 
• Responsible for the presentation of media strategy and plan recommendations, POVs, analysis and reporting and other educational information to internal/external clients 
• Oversee media administration on assigned accounts to ensure campaigns are delivered within budgets, billed appropriately and reported accurately 
• Evaluate trends, emerging technologies, tools, audience behavior, media usage and content consumption, as well as make recommendations for how we can create new opportunities for our clients 
• Proactively serve as an agency subject matter expert, resource and thought leader on all things related to paid media 
• Serve as a mentor and guide to individual direct reports, as well as a champion for the collective growth of team

In addition to their role as media strategist on assigned accounts, they contribute to overall department leadership supporting. 

• Support Media leadership in the daily operations of the Media Services department 
• Help manage resources and tools to make the agency’s media team as effective and efficient as possible 
• Work with media leadership to develop and share media planning and buying best practices within the agency, optimize workflow and processes, and mentor teammates  
• Maintain current working knowledge of programs and software, ensuring the entire media planning and buying team remains on the cutting edge of essential technology and skills  
• Set agenda, develop content and lead recurring department meetings  
• Be a general advocate for paid media planning and buying, and the paid media planning and buying team 
• Participate in and/or lead various initiatives in support of the overall agency and department vision 
• Pursue new media planning and buying business opportunities with existing and prospective clients  
• Lead by example and provide team direction in the absence of Managing Director 

The Associate Media Director must demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, critical thinking and  problem-solving ability. They must be detail oriented and highly organized, with the ability to understand client needs and translate those into paid media strategies. They should have excellent communication skills and the ability to foster long-term relationships with media partners/vendors, clients and agency teams. They should be passionate about learning and sharing knowledge related to their discipline, in pursuit of achieving department and agency goals.

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience required 
• 8+ years of professional experience planning, buying and analyzing all forms of online and offline paid media 
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment  
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills, both internal and client-facing 
• Experience in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Google Ads, Google Analytics and Campaign Manager 
• Ability to engage and maintain relationships among all levels of the internal team, client contacts, and vendors 
• Ability to balance account responsibilities with department leadership role
