Job Description

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) welcomes applications for the position Auto CAD/GIS Specialist through midnight on Sunday, October 9, 2022.

Performs professional and technical analysis, design, and modification of a variety of Geographic Information System (GIS) and computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) data. Duties generally include the development of conceptual plans, models and exhibits for a variety of projects ranging in size and complexity; field inspections on new and existing assets; maintaining the CADD and GIS databases in accordance with the Jacksonville Aviation Authority CADD/GIS Standards to ensure accuracy of data; and managing the FAA airspace review process. Work requires knowledge of automated and conventional drafting methods, practices, techniques, equipment, specialized skills in interpreting and plotting legal descriptions and field notes, and computing basic engineering and surveying calculations involving algebra, trigonometry and geometry. The position requires courtesy, tact, skills in understanding people, building relationships, and asking questions to obtain clarification. The work is semi-routine where tasks are covered by procedures, and although patterned, some latitude is permitted to consider and choose the most appropriate technique, method or procedure to follow. Work is performed primarily in an office environment and occasionally in the field. Operates computers, standard office equipment and conventional drafting equipment on an ongoing basis. Work is performed under general supervision where work assignments are subject to instructions and established procedures.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Prepares as-built and CADD drawings.
  • Manages files associated with both CADD and GIS drawings.
  • Reviews, updates and maintains electronic drawings/files using CADD and GIS software.
  • Maintains or modifies existing GIS and CADD databases.
  • Prepares clear, accurate and complete working plans and detailed drawings from sketches and notes.
  • Creates CADD drawings for tenant improvements and lease exhibits.
  • Maintain existing facilities information, populating data as required.
  • Provides CAD/GIS support to all internal and external customers.
  • Reviews electronic files from architects and engineers to ensure compliance with JAA’s CADD/GIS standards.
  • Maintains GIS graphics, software and databases.
  • Researches technical issues and provides solutions.
  • Assists with analysis, research, design, and implementation of all mapping tools, templates, and standards.
  • Maintains files, drawings and maintenance manuals.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of AutoCADD software.
  • Knowledge of GIS software.
  • Knowledge of drafting standards.
  • Knowledge of FAA Imaginary Surfaces, airspace restrictions, clearance, and requirements, FAA’s Airport Layout Plan and the FAA Electronic ALP (eALP) program, and applicable Advisory Circulars.
  • Ability to read and interpret plan drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment.
  • Ability to resolve problems with a focus on the needs of the end-user.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Required Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field and
  • Five (5) years of experience in civil, structural or architectural drafting or
  • An equivalent combination of related education, training, and work experience.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • CAD/GIS work experience gained by working for a consulting firm, a construction company, a public agency, or an airport authority
  • Professional certifications in a related field.
  • Airport/aviation engineering experience.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • Florida Class E Driver’s License may be required and must be maintained.

Physical Demands
The physical demands consist of moving from one work location to another, sitting or standing at a workstation for extended periods of time
and may involve lifting objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position with or
