Job purpose

Working with Partners, Managers help to lead, mentor and coach team members in various areas of tax compliance and across consulting engagements in an effort to help clients minimize tax liabilities. They are responsible for management of engagements and client communications while promoting a collaborative environment to bring value to clients.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Commitment to Client Service

  • Collaborates with others to provide quality service to clients
  • Engages in professional and efficient communication with clients
  • Leads client meetings
  • Promotes additional services to client when appropriate
  • Develops intimate knowledge of clients and their business activities
  • Communicates with the IRS and other state authorities in a professional manner when applicable
  • Stays abreast of current economic and business events

 

Technical Skills

  • Exhibits a high level understanding of technical requirements, procedures and principles with an emphasis on book-ups under §704(b) including §704(c) allocations and step-ups under §754
  • Ability to review partnership agreements and advise clients on the relevant tax sections of the agreements and their corresponding tax consequences including preparation of proforma tax and 704(b) capital accounts based on the relevant waterfall or target allocations as provided for in the agreements
  • Has an advanced understanding of IRC sections 1445 (FIRPTA) and 1446 along with related tax forms (1042, 8804, 8805)
  • Manages and monitors preparation and review of complex partnership, S Corporation and individual tax returns, including projections and estimate calculations
  • Reviews and advises on technical research memorandums
  • Researches and reviews work papers for various book to tax differences
  • Ability to  advise clients on the tax efficiencies of various structures including the use of domestic and foreign entities
  • Identifies area of specialization and is continuously refining skills, knowledge and expertise

  • Effectively delegates responsibility providing proper instructions, monitoring and coaching
  • Conducts training for lower level associates
  • Manages projects by scheduling associates, tracking completion and managing the budget

 

Business Results

  • Maintains open communication with team regarding the progress of completion on projects
  • Participates actively in training and developmental opportunities, both as an attendee and as a facilitator
  • Manages all aspects of billing, including client inquiries
  • Develops appropriate fee quotes for new tax engagements
  • Enters time daily

  • Participates in Firm events
  • Commits to outside reading, studying and professional growth
  • Represents the goals of the firm on a consistent basis internally and externally
  • Networks to promote Bennett Thrasher business and bring in new clients

 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required, Master’s preferred
  • CPA required
  • 5+ years of  tax experience is required
  • Advanced  knowledge of partnership tax law and principles of individual and business taxation is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong commitment to professional and client service excellence
  • Proven time management, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple engagements simultaneously
