With a goal of delivering an excellent student experience, the Programmer writes custom code to streamline and optimize Logan’s processes, and delivers enhanced functionality and data for users of the university’s computer systems. In addition to programming, this position will provide staff with technical support, guidance, training, and instruction in best practices for the use of this technology. The work involves project planning, code writing, testing, creating database queries, writing reports, and utilizing workflow and integration tools to develop reliable, secure functionality and data sharing processes for both on premise and cloud-based systems.


The Programmer will be able to understand university business processes, the data stored in relational databases, write code to access and manipulate this data, and be able to clearly communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical users while building strong professional relationships. The Programmer will work as part of the Information Technology Services team to support the technology being used to manage Logan’s core business processes.



  1. Develop custom functionality for Logan’s key business needs including writing code, testing, creating database queries, troubleshooting, and documenting with an emphasis on securely delivering correct data in a high-quality user experience.
  2. Use APIs, Web services, workflows, and other technology to create integrations between systems and databases to enable functionality, reporting, and data sharing.
  3. Consult with clients when developing plans and throughout projects to define goals, gather detailed requirements, develop milestones, and ensure the deliverables address the most up-to-date functional and technical constraints.
  4. Collaborate with departments to understand, evaluate and refine existing administrative processes with the goal of automating tasks and streamlining business operations.
  5. Work with SQL Server Reporting Services to provide data and reports for administrative needs.
  6. Diagnose, analyze, and develop solutions to correct application issues; documenting the problem and the solution in a way that is accessible to Logan employees and helps them accomplish their work.
  7. Develop deep functional and technical knowledge about the capabilities, architecture and supporting technologies of Logan’s key administrative systems.
  8. Developing and effectively communicating best practices, and training and supporting staff in the regular use of Logan’s administrative systems.
  9. Demonstrating a commitment to excellent service and the development of productive working relationships with all users.
  10. Maintaining deep functional/domain knowledge of programming technologies and currency/fluency with industry trends that affect the services.


To perform this job successfully, the individual must have strong programming skills and be able to understand, analyze, and translate a client’s functional needs into technical solutions using code, database queries, workflows, API integrations, and other programming technology. The individual needs to have strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills, and be able to quickly learn to use new technologies. The individual must be dependable and quality conscious; demonstrating accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail, and must be able to work effectively with moderate supervision.



To perform this job successfully, the individual needs to have the correct qualifications and be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or similar alternative qualifications.
  • Three (3) years or more of application development experience creating custom programming with standard Microsoft development tools.
  • Experience writing stored procedures, functions, and triggers with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience writing queries and developing custom reports in the Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services environment.
  • Web development experience using HTML, JavaScript, XML, Cascading Style Sheets and other web technologies.
  • Ability to consult with clients and discover project requirements from verbal and/or written communication; documenting the requirements for approval.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical situations – identifying problems and working with staff to recommend and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documentation, technical procedures, and governmental regulations and apply them to Logan’s administrative needs.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to maintain productive working relationships at all levels of the institution through strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadlines.
  • As this position will have access to technology and data regarding student and/or patient records, this individual must maintain data privacy and enforce FERPA and HIPAA requirements.


This position requires proficiency with current programming and web development tools such as ASP.NET, C#, SQL, SSRS, PHP, HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, etc., with an emphasis on the Microsoft development environment. Individual should be skilled with relational databases (Microsoft SQL server preferred). The individual also needs to be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software. A working knowledge of university business processes is a plus.
