The Commercial Lending Support Specialist works in the Commercial lending department, supporting a team of Relationship Managers with prospecting, sales and customer onboarding, including applications, and customer service. As part of the sales team, the Support Specialist serves as a critical cornerstone to enhance the client experience. This role offers the opportunity to learn about the commercial banking industry and gain valuable experience working directly with customers.



  • Support Relationship Managers in sourcing, securing, developing, and retaining profitable banking relationships within the bank.
  • Assist the Relationship Managers with maintaining and growing current relationships.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on customer onboarding and ongoing customer due diligence/ enhanced due diligence.
  • Works with Relationship Managers to on board new customers by gathering required information and input into the system of record.
  • Act as key liaison for Relationship Managers and customers for internal and customer inquiries.
  • Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of loan applications and supporting documents and loan information sheets for new and existing accounts as needed. Works with Relationship Managers in monitoring customer accounts and loan portfolios to detect changes that might affect their credit standing. Conducts credit investigations when necessary, including spreading and/or analyzing financial statements of potential and existing customers utilizing the Bank’s accepted analytical credit criteria, on as needed basis.
  • Interacts with clients/prospects and acts as a liaison between Relationship Managers and other departments, as needed. Provides backup contact to client/prospect when Relationship Managers is unavailable.
  • Assists Relationship Managers with identifying prospects and opportunities with existing clients. May accompany Relationship Manager on customer/prospect calls.
  • Responsible for the development of customer presentations, pitch books for new lending opportunities, cross selling and other business to existing clients.
  • Stays abreast of current market/industry news and events and participates in industry trade groups, etc.).
  • Actively ensures compliance with the 1st Security Bank Code of Ethics and all Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Secrecy Act, information security and suspicious activity reporting requirements, policies and procedures. Actively participates in any required corporate and business line training in these areas. Follows account opening procedures and understands and follows internal suspicious activity referral requirements and processes, as required for this position. Actively works with customers to understand each customer's normal account activity, as appropriate for this position.

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Two to five years of experience in portfolio management or similar banking role preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable bank and branch policies, procedures, and support systems.
  • Well-developed analytical skills; attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to make one-on-one and group presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering and applicable policies, procedures and Regulations that pertain to this position required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and other Database software.
