Accountable to:

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is appointed by the Branch Director, after the approval of the Director of Branch Operations, and is directly accountable to the Branch Director.


Job Summary:

The YDP is responsible for planning, implementing and supervising all youth development related activities and events for the GYM program. The YDP supervises members in and around the Club and exercises care for BGCSA property.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Executes the implementation of Boys & Girls Clubs curricula and programs focused on three priority outcomes; academic success, good character & citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Coordinates integrated activities and events for club members and the community and provides family engagement opportunities.
  • Takes responsibility for assigned program area (Learning Center, Art Room, Game Room, Gym, Tech Lab, etc.) and has the flexibility to work in other program areas as needed.
  • Ensures program areas are always safe, engaging and properly maintained.
  • Ensures all program data requirements are completed in a timely and consistent manner; prepares reports.
  • Promotes and stimulates membership and participation in club activities.
  • Supports volunteers who assist with the implementation of program activities.
  • Establishes positive relationships with all stakeholders including youth, parents, volunteers, schools, and community partners.
  • Provides positive, informal guidance and mentorship.
  • Effectively communicates the goals, objectives, programs and activities of the club to stakeholders.
  • Takes responsibility for assigned equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • 40+ college hours preferred.
  • 1+ years’ experience in youth development preferred.
  • Must be able to work with inner-city youth.



  • Must possess good character and decision-making skills.
  • Must possess a sincere interest in children, maturity, self-control, and sound judgment.
  • Must have working knowledge of positive youth development and positive behavior management skills.
  • Must have the energy, initiative and ability to get things done within specific time frames.
  • Must support the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Must uphold the policies and procedures of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio.
  • Possess skills for communicating clearly and knowledgeably.
  • Must be able to prepare and keep records organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to make objective decisions and fairly discipline.

  • Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
