Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.

  • High School diploma or GED from and accredited institution

  • Maintains familiarity with and complies with all compliance organizations (Joint Commission, HRSA, OSAP, ANSI etc.)

  • Follows all internal control plans (Infection Control etc.)

  • Certification to perform cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Health Care Professional (CPR) and AED through courses that follow the guidelines from the American Heart Association and Red Cross (cognitive and skills evaluations)

  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations

  • Certification from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)

  • Ensures instruments are sterilized as soon as feasible when received into sterilization to not impact patient care.

  • Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments and equipment and assemble, packages, and sterilizes trays of instruments.

  • Follows proper standard precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas

  • Understands and follows all manufacturer instructions for use

  • Performs and monitors biological spore testing to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments.

  • Remains current on all standards of practice for sterilization

  • Identifies and verifies that all equipment is functioning properly, and the integrity is not compromised

  • Maintains a clean environment

  • Uses all appropriate personal protective equipment

  • Follows all relevant policies and procedures

  • Performs all necessary quality control checks

  • Working knowledge of all solutions, supplies and equipment cleaning and maintenance

  • Can operate the following equipment

  • Ultrasonic

  • Sterilizer

  • Dental lubrication systems

  • Biological incubator

  • Performs all environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing

  • Keeps accurate logs

  • Tracks instruments and can identify instruments by proper name and purpose

  • Keeps leaders apprised of any issues or concerns with equipment, instruments, or supplies

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time when traveling to various clinic sites. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to health hazards (contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, etc.) when working in the clinic area.
