Description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the classifying, recording and reconciling of financial transactions, including accounts payable, cash disbursements, accounts receivable, cash receipts and general journal entries. Also responsible for trial balance preparation and monthly closing, production of the organizations financial statements and building maintenance activities of owned and leased office space.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

  1. Prepares for the annual audit process by providing detailed expense account reports and other account analyses.
  2. Codes invoices to general ledger for data entry and ensures proper account coding for all invoices.
  3. Ensures that all discounts are properly taken.
  4. Ensures that a proper filing system is maintained of all paid and unpaid bills, purchase orders and receiving reports.
  5. Maintains appropriate control over unpaid invoices reconciling detail to general ledger.
  6. Reviews and processes all employee expense reports to ensure compliance with MTN policies and procedures.

GENERAL LEDGER AND FINANCIAL REPORTING

  1. Prepares and records month-end journal entries for Midwest Transplant Network and owned and leased office space.
  2. Maintains asset and liability schedules and fixed asset detail records.
  3. Prepares and balances month end trial balance.
  4. Prepares reports for the Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for interim and annual Medicare cost reports as requested.
  5. Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and the preparation of quarterly financial reports for the Board of Directors.
  6. In conjunction with the contracted support firm, assumes primary responsibility for the management and improvement of the system.
  7. Performs year end functions such as closing the year and preparing financial reports.

ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE

  1. Completes bank reconciliations.
  2. Reviews all functions performed by the Billing Accounting Specialist for duties pertaining to accounts receivable and performs accounts receivable functions in his/her absence.

BUILDING

  1. Assists with MTN building maintenance issues during regular business hours.
  2. Responsible for security and access control for tenants and provides back-up support for MTN employees.
  3. Attends and actively participates in monthly building meetings with Treasurer/CFO.
  4. Prepares annual building square footage review and summaries results for annual Medicare Cost Report.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Bachelors degree in Accounting, or related field, required.
  2. One (1) year experience in accounting or related field required, 2+ years of experience preferred.
  3. Detail oriented, organized, excellent tracking/reporting skills, effective written and verbal communication.
  4. Extensive knowledge of accounting software programs.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Advanced level of proficiency with Excel.
  6. Must maintain a valid drivers license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.
  7. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  8. Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and office equipment.
  9. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
  10. OSHA Category III No exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.
  11. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
