Job Title: Guest Services Nordic Center Representative

Experience and familiarity with classic and skate skiing (Cross Country/Nordic Skiing)

  • Experience teaching, especially Nordic skiing
  • Patience and good customer service skills in a bustling atmosphere
  • Good with children, including younger children (we regularly teach down to the kindergarten level)
  • Punctuality and good communication with coworkers and supervisors

Since we teach lots of beginners, if you like the sound of the job we are willing to train the right person if you are worried your skiing/teaching experience is weaker. More experienced applicants may have the opportunity to teach and help coach older more experienced skiers. We host many races and you could have the opportunity to help out and see the Soldier Hollow Competition team and the University of Utah team in action.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Accountability

  • Help run Nordic center with pass sales, rentals, answering phones, answering guest questions, and retail sales
  • Maintain Nordic center equipment and help with grooming reports, signage etc.

  • Help set up for and coach/assistant coach younger kids ski programs.
  • Present a professional and knowledgeable welcome to athletes, coaches, and guests.
  • Responsible for the daily operation of the Nordic center area, follow set-up, open, close and communication protocols.
  • Explain Nordic ski passes, and ski rental equipment to guests.
  • Check-in guests for xc skiing and ensure all guests have signed a waiver via Centaman
  • Coordinate sport program registrations in Bond with athletes, including entering waivers and registrations occurring on-site.
  • Responsible for providing the public with current events information, answering questions about Solider Hollow functions and Team SoHo Programs.
  • Verify opening and closing till amounts, and deposits from previous day.
  • Assist in receiving inventory, inventory control and selling inventory for Retail Shop and Concessions.
  • Help out with staffing major venue events such as ski races.
  • Keep work area clean, clear and organized.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Essential Skills

  • Experience working with the public.
  • Friendly manner and excellent communications skills.
  • Superior organizational, coordination, multi-tasking abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Must enjoy working in a team environment.
  • General knowledge of Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, its purpose, and use for the future of Utah.
  • Self-starter attitude. Ability to work with little supervision once daily direction has been given.
  • Willing to be flexible, completing additional tasks as needed, such as serving as parking attendant, ticket sales, or filling in for other staff when needed.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with PC applications and Microsoft office programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of age.
  • Flexible work schedule must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Environmental Job Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperature/weather extremes.
  • Willingness to work many hours during major events, holidays, school hours, and weekends a plus but must work out a schedule with manager and be reliable.
  • Able to work in extreme cold winter conditions.
  • Transportation to the Nordic center.
  • Ability to work with all user groups and employees in a friendly and accommodating manner.
  • Shovel snow and other odd jobs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand on feet for extended time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing to converse with others in a normal conversation.
  • Balancing, bending, climbing, kneeling, walking, pushing, reaching above shoulders, and sitting.
