Job Summary
Looking for a unique event position in a desired location? Here’s one to consider! The Event Programmer conceptualizes, develops, and executes DECC-founded events. They will be the lead staff on events like the Duluth Winter Village to upcoming budding, newly created events.

Requirements and Competencies

  • At least two years of experience in customer service, event planning or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Creative and effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to respond to problems and to assist clients with a calm, courteous, and helpful manner, and attitude
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Preferred Experience and Competencies

  • Bachelors in event planning or related field.
  • Thorough understanding of legal regulations and permits required for events.
  • Experience with event planning software through Ungerbock

Essential Roles (Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.)

  • To oversee a creative new series of events at the DECC, currently titled “DECC presents”
  • Working towards defining annual events to take place in a given year
  • Lead in conceptualizing, developing, and executing the “DECC presents” event series
  • Act as the point person for all “DECC presents” events
  • Organize the logistics needed to execute events, which could include creating maps of events, materials needed, staff demands, outside vendors, etc
  • Complete event evaluations


This position is full-time, 40-hours per week, with regular shifts occurring on weekends and evenings. Some events may require shifts outside of the typical schedule.

Work Environment
Office setting including sitting, standing, and walking. Hands-on coordination day of event as needed.

Physical Demands
There is a significant amount of physical activity during events. Events also can be a stressful and intense environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of reference checks
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Successful completion of a drug test, if applicable

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s).
The list of acceptable documents can be provided.

This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time.
