Position Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Environmental Services Technician is part of a team that works to provide a clean, safe environment for students, visitors, faculty, and staff by providing general housekeeping and custodial services throughout the Westminster Community.

Supervisor: Environmental Services Manager, Environmental Services Leads

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Position Status:  Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt, Regular, 12-month position

Hours of Work:  Standard work week based on the school’s schedule.  Evening and weekend work will be required during heavy workload periods and campus special events.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs general cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming and disinfecting
  • Complies with all safety practices, procedures, and rules
  • Ensures all areas of responsibility are cared for and inspected according to departmental standards
  • Exercises safety and care when using equipment
  • Notifies superiors about any damages or deficits to school equipment, facilities, or grounds
  • Responds to requests or concerns with professionalism and patience
  • Checks stocking levels of all consumables and replace when needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience as a cleaner or housekeeper in a commercial setting
  • Work independently or with a team with little supervision while maintaining a high level of performance
  • Customer-service oriented and friendly
  • Flexible to the changing demands of the position with the willingness and initiative to handle extra duties as needed
  • Proven time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Work quickly without compromising quality
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, short correspondence and memos
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion; respect and value the different experiences, ideas, and backgrounds others bring to the work environment
  • Basic communication skills and working knowledge of the English language


 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will, at times, be exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

 

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.
